The Jury's Out

I've been called to jury duty. This is the third time I've been called. The last time, was 22 years ago when The Eldest was in kindergarten.  Here in Massachusetts, we serve one day or one trial.

Have you been called to jury duty? If so, were you seated on the jury? What was the trial?

  1. i was on a vehicular homicide case. the victim was twice as drunk as the driver. at the beginning of deliberation 10 of the people on the jury wanted to let him off. after several days of further deliberation we convicted him. it was a very interesting experience. the next time i was on jury duty, when i was asked about any previous experience and said that i was on a jury that had convicted, i was released by the defendant's lawyer.

  2. Today, I was the alternate juror on an assault and battery case on a 13 yr old child. Very interesting process.

  3. I've been called twice, but never had to serve. So as an alternate juror did you actually hear the case or where you on standby? Sounds like you heard the case.....?

    1. I heard the entire case. Participated in jury deliberations, because if a jury member became ill or couldn't participate, I would have to step in. When the jury returned to deliver the verdict, I sat in a separate chair from the jury. Like I was in time out :-D

    1. In Massachusetts, if you are over 70, you don't have to serve jury duty if you don't want to.
