T Stands For Qi (Chi)

Himself has been having problems with his back. Besides going to physical therapy, he's also been doing some energy work on Fridays at the dojo. Last Friday, he invited me to tag along, but first we stopped to have breakfast at Friendly's in Framingham.


We ordered out drinks. Coke for Himself and a cup of tea for me. I was really looking forward to breakfast.


I ordered Cinnamon Bun pancakes with bacon. Himself had ordered the Big Two Do. Two scrambled eggs, two Brioche French toast, two sausage, and he also got an order of home fries. The waiter brought his breakfast, but my breakfast was no where to be found. Color me disappointed. Several minutes after his breakfast was brought out. The waiter came back and told me they ran out of the frosting that is drizzled on top of the pancakes. What? If you're going to offer menu items, the least you can do is have everything as listed. Otherwise make it known that a certain item is not offered when someone is placing the order.. And to be honest, it's not that difficult to make a frosting. 1/4 cup of powdered sugar, a couple of teaspoons of milk. Ta-DA! I decided to have the Cinnamon Bun pancakes without the frosting.


A few minutes later, the waiter brought my breakfast, but with sausage instead of bacon. I told him I ordered bacon, and he went back and brought me a plate of 3 strips of bacon. We were the only people in the restaurant at this time, but the waiter clearly wasn't happy, didnt want to be there.

The restaurant has a table kiosk to pay your bill, but the kiosk wasn't working. The waiter took another kiosk off another table for us. I was only able to eat half of my pancakes. They were delicious, but huge.Three of them at least 6 inches in diameter. The waiter asked if I wanted a take home box. Sure! He went back to the kitchen and we never saw him again...We waited for the box. Himself decided to use the men's room. Still no box. We left. We've had great service at the Worcester and Auburn locations. We'll skip the Framingham location from now on..

We were early when we got to the dojo. Master Beef was running his Master in The Morning Class. He works one on one with students. D, a second degree brown belt was working on a scythe form that he would perform at the annual regional tournament in November.

Himself works with Bob, not to be confused with Bob. Bob is owner, of SimplyQiGong. His practice focuses on Meditation, soft stylized movements, and breath work to promote deep relaxation, stress relief, pain relief and more.  Bob's program has been developed through practices and training in Guided Meditation, Reiki, QiGong, Tui Na, G-Jo, Myotherapy, Acupoint Tapping, Trigger Point Therapy, and continued research and practice.


 They started with some good mornings.


Bob sounded like he was coming down with coughing up a lung. His wife had been ill with bronchitis which morphed into pneumonia, and Bob was worried he had caught it, too. He asked Himself if he would do a Tui Na exercise to get his chi moving in his lungs. This included a move that looked like slapping the back. Similar to burping an infant, but with a little more force.

They did some floor exercises for back and sciatica. After all the stretching and ramping up of chi, it was time to go home for some horizontal meditation.

  1. Wow, I've had those kinds of restaurant experiences, too. I can TOTALLY relate. I think the pancakes look good, though.

    Those exercises look easy. So glad your husband is into that. I hope his back problems lighten soon.

    1. The pancakes were good. Would have been better with the frosting an a more cheerful waiter.

      Western exercise differs in that a lot of exertion is required to get benefits. The Eastern philosphy is gentle exercise by stimulating chi is more efficient and effective.

  3. Shame the restaurant wasn't up to par, the food looked delicious although I'm guessing​ the pancakes would have been even more scrummy with the frosting 😀. Thanks for taking us to the dojo and your comment about shishkebab made a me smile 😁. I like the philosophy of connecting with your life energy and using gentle exercise and meditation, I hope your husband is feeling much better. Happy T Day! J 😊

    1. Some days better than others. He had an appointment with a back specialist. Waiting for an appointment for an MRI to see what's going on.

  4. That's too bad about the service at that Friendly's. Bet you won't rush back to that one. :) I think movement is sometimes the best way to loosen up those muscles. Of course it depends what the back issue is. But I enjoyed seeing Bob (again) and the motions you showed us. Its really interesting. Hope you stay cool today! I am all messed up being home in "recovery" mode and my mind thinks its July, not June, and my coworkers and the kids are still in school-but not for too much longer. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

    1. Yeah, we won't be going back to that Friendly's any time soon. Just give your body a chance to recover. Slow and steady. And before you know it, it will be September and back to school.

  6. I always found Friendly's to be not so friendly. Maybe they don't treat the workers very well....

    1. Maybe that's why they had to close lots of locations. Have never had an issue with the Worcester or Auburn locations.

  10. I just read your questions about the Keeper of the Plains statue. First, the "emblem" on the back is our city flag. The design won a prize back in 1937 and it became the official flag of Wichita after that.

    Three years ago, I picked up a brochure about the Keeper statues that looked like they were white plaster. Even though the design concepts were juried, you had to pay for the statue, which you in turn donated to the city. I didn't have that kind of money to lay out, so I threw the information away. However, I THINK there were supposed to be 10 of them, but so far I've only seen two, one of which was at the zoo. I've since tried to learn where the rest are located, but no one seems to know who to contact to get the information. Hope that helps.

    The workout sounds wonderful. I love the meditation and breathing aspects.
    The breakfast....not so great:( I hate when that happens. I trust the next one will be better.

  12. What a bad experience in the restaurant. I wouldn't go back there either, although your food did look yummy.
    I think I would have asked for an amended bill and wouldn't have left a tip.

    1. The food was good. It was the service that was lacking. Breakfast is 50% off the entire bill during the week so that took the sting out of the experience

    The food looks good. What a shame the wait person was so careless. :( I wouldn't go back either.

  14. What a disappointment, although hubby's looks good I think I would have been wanting to take some of that away too! I would have taken a clean napkin from another table to wrap it in!! Hubby's activities looked interesting! Happy T Day! Chrisx

  15. The kind of experience you had in the restaurant can really spoil a meal. You go in to relax and enjoy, then come out irritated and annoyed. Oh well ... lesson learned, right?

    Fascinating information on the dojo and the many practices available there. "Horizontal meditation" - lol - one of my yoga teachers has a bumper sticker that says, "I'd rather be in shavasana" (corpse pose).

  16. I definately don't like eating out for just that reason-bad service and unfriendly hosts and most times I can make the food better myself-lol so glad it was good though-but then you never got to take the rest home sounds like-sigh
    interesting about the exercises--I missed yesterday but still wanted to drop by the T party today
