The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. The new boiler, baseboards, and Nest thermostat were installed.

2. Early Saturday morning, Himself was flipping through channels and found one of my favorite movies, How Green Was My Valley with Donald Crisp and baby Roddy McDowell.

3. After watching the latest episode of Outlander, Himself flipped through channels again and tuned into my all time favorite movie, The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951). Starring Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal. Directed by Robert Wise

4. Though we lost electricity during the storm, we were fortunate to have power restored within 12 hours. Other people around the region were without power for days.

5. The latest shop vac had lost suction for some reason. Himself bought me a new shop vac and Bucket Head. Yup, Himself's a keeper.

How was your week?

  1. My week has been good except I feel like my list of chores grew substantially after the wind storm. Will I ever finish my list, probably not. All those good intentions often stay just intentions. Thanks for the raking info in your comment CJ. One thing I can say is that there always seems to be more leaves even after they all fall off the trees so maybe that's why I have such a chipmunk population. Sounds like you had a great week. Coming across 2 of your fav movies by chance is always a good thing. Seems like there is nothing on TV other than Outlander and Project Runway for me lately. Have a great day! Hugs-Erika

  2. Sounds like a good week except for the loss of power. Old and loved films are always good. My week was not too bad except for lots of pains - it can only get better! Hugs, Valerie

  4. While I like DAY THE EARTH very much, I think I like the faster pace of THE THING (1951).

You'll enjoy the Nest thermostat-- we have one and it's great. It knows when we are no longer in the room and will turn the heat down automatically for us.

    1. I haven't seen The Thing in forever. Might have to look that up.

I enjoyed setting a schedule on the Nest with my phone. So far, we really haven't had to turn the heat on so I haven't seen everything it can do yet.

  6. I am in awe of every good thing that happened to you this week. First, chancing onto movies you love two days in a row is another reason to keep your hubby. but getting a new shop vac is even better. I don't know what a Nest thermostat is, exactly, but it sounds like you will save on utility bills, at least when the power is on (grin).

    1. Not one but two shop vacs. The bucket head is a vac that fits over a 5 gal bucket. It makes it a lot easier to vac the basement steps as it's light and easy to carry.

The Nest thermostat not only controls the temp in the house, but learns what temps you prefer. It senses when you leave and will automatically reduce the temperature. It's also connected through your home wi-fi and there's an app so you can control the thermostat from your phone. Anywhere you happen to be. Saving money on fuel oil will be a big plus
