The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. Tax-free Weekend. Himself bought a new laptop.

2. Received some Happy Mail from Scotland

3. When The Eldest lived at home, we used to watch cooking shows which we gleefully called Food Porn. Sunday night, she invited me over Skype to watch one of our favorites, Worst Cooks

4. The Young One was having a bad day. She came to ask for a hug. I'm still needed.

5. Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day

How was your day?

  4. Did you draw that black cat image CJ? It is great. It is nice to be needed by our kids, isn't it? Mine is coming home for the weekend again, and at first I was like, not again, I get no personal time when she is home, but then I thought, it could be worse. One day she may not be able to come home so much. Glad you had a great week. Hope your weekend isn't too wet and a good one. Hugs-Erika

    1. No, I found the image on Facebook, but it didn't have an attribution. It's nice to know that even when the kidlets are grown, they still need us. Just not when they need money! =^,.^=

  5. You aren't the only one who mentioned Black Cat Appreciation Day. Sandra did, too. I have it on my calendar, but didn't mention it.

What in the world is tax free weekend? Is that just for your state, or? We are one of the few states that still require tax on EVERYTHING, including food.

It's good to still be needed. My fur babies take turns being needy. Happy Friday.

    1. In Massachusetts, our sales tax is 6.25% on most things except food and clothing. A few years ago, to help boost the economy, it was decided there would be a tax-free weekend during the Summer. This only applies to items under $2500, but not cigarettes. So you can't buy a house, car, boat, or any other big ticket item. Tax-free works well for things like electronics, furniture especially if the stores add a sale price. So Himself found $1000 laptop at Best Buy that was on sale for $865 so he saved something like $60 in sales tax.

We haven't had a tax-free weekend since 2015.At first, there wasn't going to be a tax-free weekend this year. The Senate rejected a bill. But at the last minute the governor signed a bill for a tax-free weekend this year and to have a yearly tax-free weekend starting next year.

    2. Our sales tax is 7.5% on most things, except I believe there is a SIN tax on alcohol and cigarettes. Not sure what it is, but I "thought" someone told me $1.00/pack on cigarettes.

Of course, then we have city and county taxes which raises the tax to about 8% on everything, including food. If I lived there, or we had a tax free weekend, I would have stocked up on food and a few craft supplies, especially if they were on sale!!

  6. Yes, no matter how old we get, we still need our mommies! The boys still ask for my help/advice....and I would give my right arm to have my mom give me one more hug.
