The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. The Eldest sent a picture of her garden.

2. I enjoyed watching the world premiere of Doctor Who and then got to watch it at its regular time while Skyping with the Eldest.

3. Robin from Pink House Studios sent me a link with instructions on how to upload pictures from a desktop top to Instagram. It didn't work for me until I saw a YouTube video. That didn't work either until I scrolled down to the comments and saw: IF YOU DON'T SEE THE ICON, RELOAD YOUR BROWSER WHILE IN THE DEVELOPER TOOLS. IT'S A CACHE ISSUE. And ta-da! It worked and I was able to spam Instagram with my Inktober drawings.

4. The Scan n Cut mat lost its tack. Online, I found a couple of easy and inexpensive solutions to try to get the tack back without having to buy a new mat. The Interwebs are wonderful.

5. The Young One helped me figure out how to cut more than one object at a time on the cutting machine.

How was your week?

  1. Sounds like a good week. Those scan and cut mats don't last at all. I use a glue stick to hold down my page/cloth and then immediately pull up the cut and paper and wipe down the matt. Don't know if you saw that fix or not but thought I would pass it on. And I did love the new Doctor. She was great. Sounds like a good week. Hugs-Erika

    1. Suggestions from Brother spokesperson Julie Fei-Fan Balzer recommended wiping the mat with fragrance and alcohol free baby wipes. Which worked. I also saw a video where it was suggested to use a Zig 2 Way glue stick to restore the sticky. I bought the glue just in case.

  2. Busy busy week.... your daughter's garden is lovely... If you have a minute i have a question about the Scan n Cut... Do you love it? I have a Cuttle Bug and often wonder if the Scan n Cut would do what i need.. I NEED it to cut out the images i draw... Do you think it would do that? I'd appreciate any thoughts on it.. Hugs! deb

  3. Your daughter's garden looks lovely! Very nice!

I am afraid I am a lost soul when it comes to the technology you speak of. I guess I am just plain dumb? You are so lucky to have your daughter to help you through what you need.

    Enjoy your weekend, CJ! :)

    1. She didn't get the green thumb from me. And my Lady, you are certainly not dumb. There are so many apps, programs, tech that seem to change daily. It's hard to keep up with it.

  4. Sounds like a good week. Clearing the cache helps by a multitude of problems! That little garden looks really pretty. We're still enjoying warm and sunny autumn weather, just great! Valerie

  5. What a week. For some reason, I thought you had to take photos with a phone in order to join Instagram. I didn't realize I could actually take photos like the ones I take around town and load them from my desktop computer. What fun that might be if I do decide to join. I just don't get all those hashtags, though. And it would be nice for those of us who are only bloggers to share the Inktober art here, too (HINT).

I have also considered biting the bullet and saving for a Scan-n-cut, because you can do so much with them, like make templates and stencils. But I have read a few blogs that make me believe the learning curve to just get through the basics can be overwhelming to some. I don't have a younger, so I'd be doing this on my own, I fear.

    1. Instagram was made to upload photos from a phone or tablet, but there is a work around. I like to edit my photos on my computer before uploading. So with this work around, I can do that. Hashtags are like labels on a file folder. It makes it easier to find things on a specific topic. If I want to see what everyone is doing for Inktober this year, I can search on #inktober2018. That way I don't have to scroll through tons of stuff.

The learning curve for the scan n cut is a bit longer than I thought it ould be.I did find a beginner class on Udemy on sale for the scan n cut. There are YouTube videos, but they aren't arranged in a linear fashion that beginners need. Brother does have a cloud based workspace with free projects, written instructions, and videos of the project. That seems to be the best way to learn the machine to get in there and play

  10. Would that link for instagram be able to work with a Mac? I don't have a cell phone, but I'm on Instagram. I can see everyone, but I can't post anything? Your Eldest garden looks beautiful!
