How Does Your Garden Grow?

The garden grows cold. A leaden sky and the pale eye of the sun indicate snow on the way

Early estimates were for 1 to 3 inches of snow. Then 2 to 4 inches of snow. Then 4 to 7 inches of snow. We ended up with 8 inches of snow followed by rain which turned the fluffy snow into heavy, wet concrete.

Happily, the mailbox survived the first storm of the season

View of the back tundra

Two inches of ice.

Someone should have taken all the yard gewgaws in. Wonder if Himself has a spare tube at the lab.

An avalanche waiting to happen. The system that monitors the solar array output sent a message stating there was a problem with the solar panels. Really? That wouldn't be due to 8 inches of snow on them, would it? No electricity being made today. or tomorrow.

Snow piled on top of the old turtle sandbox that now marks the septic cover. Looks like a little igloo.

  1. It looks cold indeed, and like a lot of work clearing it away. It's very frosty here but sunny. From this evening we've got a bad weather front coming over from North East, so it looks like snow here, too. Stay warm! Valerie

  2. Ugh! Definitely NOT ready for this crap yet --- too early for it IMO. I may love fall (and I do) but winter is an entirely different matter all together.

Glad you survived it. We got about as much as you did I see. Now it is back to rain here they say tomorrow.

    Have a great Sunday!

    1. This is way too early for this. The weather dudes said last month, this would be a mild winter. They lied!

  4. Wow! Now that's what I call snow! We never get that much. It looks so pretty stretching out to the tree line :)

    1. This is actually, a relatively, small PITA storm by New England standards. Lately, our snow totals seem to be measured in feet not inches

  5. We have one of those turtle sandboxes too. And more snow coming in over the next couple of days. Oh my! Did someone tell Mother Nature it isn't January or did we somehow miss November? Hmm. Have a great new week CJ. Hugs-Erika

    1. I wish Mother N would knock it off! The weather dudes had said this was supposed to be a mild winter! They lied. Good thing I got those heavy, wool socks. Stay warm!

  6. Snow? Lots of snow? That's just wrong!
I'm curious as to how you are doing with the solar panes. Was there enough energy stored to get you through?

    1. The solar panels aren't solar batteries. The way they work is they make electricity which gets sent back to the electric company. There's an offset during the Spring and Summer months when we make more electricity than we use. We had a small credit with the electric company. Hopefully we won't use so much electricity now that we won't be able to make as much.

  7. We had the same system! I waited for it to melt a bit, before I shoveled! LOL! Sorry about the broken tube! That is too bad about your solar panels. Your house is so cute CJ!

    1. Yup, my little dollhouse. Temps didn't rise so nothing melted. Himself brought home a tube from the lab that was hanging around. So all will be good come Spring.
