Cabbage Night

Cabbage  Night. That's what the night before Halloween was called when I was a kid. It has other names. Mischief Night, Hell Night. It was the night when windows were soaped, clotheslines were cut, trees were festooned with toilet paper, pumpkins were smashed. (I never did this kind of stuff!) or

Mailboxes were tipped over. Cabbage Night was a day early this year as Mother Nature blew through with a snowstorm. That's a picture of my mailbox lying comatose in the snow.

What does your area call Cabbage Night?

  1. October 30th? I'm not gonna lie, although I'm loving out picture perfect fall weather; I'm a bit jealous of your snow. However, first I have to get a new snowblower.

  2. I can't really think of Oct 30 being called anything special. Where does Cabbage Night come from?

  3. A search seems to suggest that cabbage night may have come from raiding gardens for the last or rotting cabbages. Would leave anice reek on someone's porch or make a good thump hurled against a door.

  4. I didn't know it had a name. :)

I'm not at all jealous that you got the first should move to MN to get away from that stuff. :D

  5. I've never heard of that. I learn something new every day!
