T Stands for Grumpy Clerk, the Beach, and a Smash Burger

After Saturday's washout, Sunday turned out to be a decent day. Not a great beach day. It was a little on the cool side, but at least it wasn't raining.

Our first stop before the beach was lunch at a sandwich/pizza shop in Wells, the next town over from Ogunquit. On the menu board was a Thanksgiving Turkey Sandwich. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce a favorite sandwich of Teague. She ordered it and the Counter Clerk snapped at her, "We don't have that!" She ordered a regular turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayo

I felt like I was in the Seinfeld episode where there was a particular way of ordering soup from the Soup Nazi.

I ordered a Crispy Chicken Sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and yellow mustard. I also ordered an iced tea and a bag of chips. He grunted at my order, but didn't yell at me.

After lunch, we headed to Ogunquit Beach. It was still a little early in the season so there weren't many people on the beach, and it was later in the afternoon, and the tide was coming in so half the beach would be underwater.

We found a spot by the wall to set up so we wouldn't have to move our stuff every half hour as the tide came in.

I watched the antics of a sparrow hunting and pecking for some goodies. I've never seen a sparrow on the beach before.

One of the things I forgot to take with me was my beach chair. I walked right by it and didn't give it a second thought until I was loading my stuff in Teague's car. No biggie. She loaded her husband's chair into the car. He was participating in his annual field day for Ham radio operators, and she said he wouldn't need his chair, but he did. Oops. She took a picture of us so he could see that we actually used his chair.

The water was too cold to go swimming, but we did stick our toes in the water.

Later that night, we went to dinner at the Brickyard Hollow Brewing Company. Last year (or maybe the year before) we had a fabulous Margherita pizza. This time around we ordered hamburgers. I had an Arnold Palmer and a Maple Bacon Smash Burger.

Smash Burgers seem to be all the rage though I don't really get it. This burger consisted of two hamburger patties that were flattened on the grill. The result was two dry hamburger patties. By smashing them flat like paper, you lose all the juicy goodness.

TBT Reprints from CJ's Whine and Cheeze

In 2003, Ma had a stroke. Dad was her full time caregiver until he he had a car accident that totaled the car. So in 2006, I became their chauffeur among other jobs.

At the time, to deal with the stress of running two households and working, I kept a blog entitled CJ's Whine and Cheeze. Egged on by some friends who enjoyed the first read through, you'll see your part when it comes by.

Television and OPD

Himself and I started watching a new television series, The Sopranos. It's not really a new series, just new to us as we don't get HBO. The series is being shown on the A&E channel. I'm really enjoying this program. I'm not watching it for the action or the drama. I'm enjoying watching Tony Soprano deal with his elderly mother and OPD. It's hysterical.

Tony loves his mother and is a devoted son. In one episode, in the middle of his business day, he calls his mother. She's sauteing mushrooms and forgets them on the stove. Next thing, flames shoot from the pan, but poor Tony can only hear his mother yelling, "Oh my God! Oh my God" Tony is able to get in touch with his wife to send her to check on his mother.

In another episode, Tony's mother is driving a friend home. The lady gets out of the car. Tony's mother goes to back out of the driveway, but forgets the car is in drive and plows through her friend. Mama ends up with a broken arm.

Tony moves his mother to a lovely assisted living facility. The old lady complains her son has "put her in a nursing home to die."

Poor Tony has panic attacks or in Italian acute agita. Tony talks to a shrink to help him deal with his OPD. He explains that the assisted living facility costs him four grand a month. It has lots of social amenities, but his mother refuses to participate thus making Tony feel very guilty. He says his mother makes him feel like he's "an Eskimo pushing her out to sea." Himself and I roared. Tony should try blogging.

I can hardly wait for next week's episode.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. On the way home from his workout, Himself stopped at Harry's. I thought we were getting fish and chips because the Knights of Columbus weren't doing their fund raiser because of Good Friday services at the church. Himself got me a full belly plate (fried clams) as a surprise.

2. Easter Sunday was quiet with just the two of us as the Eldest had to work at the hospital. Good food (roast leg of lamb), Easter egg bread, hot cross buns and we watched another Holy movie.

3. The Young One received her Easter box. They both got a kick out of the plastic "eggs" shaped like game controllers.

4. The order I placed that said it would arrive on Friday, was delivered the day after I put the order in!

5. Teague found a new place for lunch. Mak's in Franklin with awesome roast beef sandwiches. We'll be going back because they serve breakfast all day!

The Devil You Know

It always seems the grass is greener on the other side, but is it? I was musing what it would be like to deal with different Weebles. Would it be easier?

What would it be like dealing with Ruth Martin, Timmy and Lassie's mom?

"Bark, Bark!"

"What's that Lassie? Mom fell down the well again? Oh, for the love of...."

Hmmm, might be difficult haulin' the old lady out of the well.

Ok, what about Maureen Robinson from Lost in Space: "Danger, Mrs. Robinson! Danger!" Hmm, might not be so bad. The Robot could follow her around. Though as I recall someone was always yanking out his power pack. Not good.

And for you Big Valley fans, can you imagine having to deal with Victoria Barkley? Even before she hit the full blown OPD stage, she had all her children under her thumb. It only got worse when she started dressing like Nick in her short black leather jacket and tight trousers.

Victoria destined her daughter, Audra, to spinsterhood. After all, what young man in his right mind would call on the girl after Victoria shot and killed creepy Evan Miles? Yeah, I know she was trying to protect Audra from being raped, but she didn't have to use deadly force on Evan. She could have just whacked him upside the head with the rifle.

She treated Nick like a four year old. Remember in The Brawlers when Callahan come to the house and Nick is yelling at him? "Nick! You sit over there. I said!"

And poor Heath! Oh, stop groaning you two, you know I'm a Heathen! Poor Heath tried to be a gentleman by taking the reins and driving Victoria home after she had been buried under the church during an earthquake. She insisted she could drive and took over the reins. Heath ended up with an overdose of OPD and walked off the set. Missy wouldn't speak to him for 3 days. When she did it was only to ask if he had learned his lesson. To which he replied, "Yes, ma'am." Smart boy.

Her taking over the reins nearly got him killed when the wagon fell on him in the episode By Force and Violence. Heath should have walked off the set that time.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of an instance where Jarrod had to deal with her.

Ma can be very opinionated and demanding, but I don't think she's nearly as bad as Victoria Barkley. Ma hasn't caused a wagon to fall on me. Guess it's a case of the devil you know.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. Calli and Quill didn't put up the usual fuss about going into the cat carriers for the vet visit. They weren't happy, but it didn't take long to wrangle them into the carriers.

2. The new television was delivered. The picture is WOW!

3. An afternoon spent with The Brother and His Wife, The Nephew and his family so the little ones could see Santa come by the house on the firetruck. Santa was late and it was very cold and dark so after an hour we all went inside for dinner. While we were eating, the firetruck roared by the house. The kids waved to Santa from the window.

4. Haircut day and I checked us in just in time. When we got there there were 6 people on the waiting list behind us.

5. Play day with Teague and a nice lunch at Owen O'Leary's

Five good things that happened this week.

1. We met the new baby at the annual Family Gathering

2. I Skyped with the Young One at the Gathering so she could be apart of it, too.

I thought maybe she had gotten by me when I went outside to take a picture of the sunset. I went outside with a flashlight calling and calling. When I went back to the sunroom, she suddenly appeared like a little ghost. We have no idea where her new hidey-hole is

4. Tubi has some great offerings of old movies. I watched "Judgement at Nuremberg" with Spencer Tracy and Richard Widmark 💙and "Taras Bulba" with Yul Brynner and Tony Curtis

5. Tiggy messaged me on Facebook asking if a wee package arrived.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. I stopped in at the post office to see if they had a 14 in x 14 in box to send the Young One's hat and other things to her. The flat rate boxes weren't big enough. S went out back and found a box from recycle that might work. The percs of living in a small town.

2.  I found a penny in the Target parking lot

3. I ordered a sun hat for the Eldest. The hat, from the Wallaroo Hat Co. ,arrived so I had a perfect hat box to mail the Young One's hat.

4. I finished watching The Mandalorian. For the most part, I enjoyed the story except for the puppets!

5. Driving home from Teague's there was a mama turkey crossing the road with her poult. It was the cutest, tiniest baby turkey I've seen.
