Monet and Me

Monet and I are admiring the Easter centerpiece from the Eldest

and happy mail from Nan. I love how she matched the gnome on the card with a gnome on the envelope. Deliver to the Egg-selent. I love puns and that one cracks me up. Did you see what I did there? Thank you, Nan.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

The garden flag for January got put up in time to ring in the New Year

A foggy morning

Blustery winds knocked over the wishing well and brought a dusting of snow

This time, the winds didn't blow the Christmas lights in the tree away. Thanks to the Nephew who secured them well after the last windstorm took the lights down.

T Stands for Tiny Floral Arrangements in Cups

The Eldest attended our town's annual Christmas fair. Fun, food, crafts. While browsing she found these cute floral arrangements which she though would make a nice gift for me. She couldn't decide which she liked best so she gave me both.

This brought back memories. The first job I had when I was 16 years old was working for the neighbor that lived across the street. He had a business that made artificial floral arrangements which were sold to grocery stores, gift shops, and the like.

Rather than the lovely, hand-made, paper flowers shown here, we used silk (really faux silk) flowers. We used 4 inch plastic flower pots which were spray painted according to seasonal colors. We also had a 3 or 4 inch. ceramic swan which I thought was pretty until the day I had to make 200 of them to fill an order. The first 50 were pretty after that the swans lost their charm.

New Christmas Decorations

A bit of a variation from the wreaths I usually make.

Himself got into the crafting act and made snowmen from snow globes, battery operated lights, and a snowman snowball game purchased from the Dollar Store

My favorite decoration is the creche where everyone is welcome. This year, Quill decided to participate in the Christmas pageant.

and it's quite all right if you're not feeling merry and bright.

Monet and Me

have been counting down the days to Christmas and adding an ornament a day to the Advent tree. Only 2 more days?! I thought I had another week!

I also added the lettering in the counterspace of the letter "O". I'm hoping by writing out No in English, German, Russian, Irish, and French, I can manifest my wish for no snow to happen.

The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. The day before she had to leave, the Young One and I took a trip to the mall, lunch at Panera, bubble tea, and Crumbl Cookies to take home

2. After taking the Young One to the airport, we stopped for breakfast at IHOP. Then had a shopping spree at Ocean State Job Lot and the Dollar Store.

3. Took a trip to the cemetery to lay a wreath and then stopping for lunch at J. Anthony's Italian Grill

4. Himself's Yarbo arrived.

5. Cleaning and getting ready to decorate after the new television is delivered.

How was your week?

T Stands for Christmas Mugs

This coming Sunday, the town fire department will be driving Santa around my part of town as part of the department's annual tradition. That is if the fire department doesn't have to rush to an event, the weather holds out without snow, and if there is snow, Santa doesn't fall of the back of the truck when the truck makes a turn as he did a couple of year ago.

I thought my grandniece and grandnephew would enjoy waving a Santa as he races by lights flashing and siren wailing. Then for hot chocolate, pizza, and cookies. Except I didn't have any nice Christmas mugs so I Merry Christmased some for myself. Can you guess which mug is mine?

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Early morning moon

Red sky in the morning

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

out with the Harvest decorations and in with Christmas

The Young One was conscripted to help with the decorations

Lanterns and the Welcome flag

The Welcome sign just in case I don't get a chance to make a wreath

The Hobbit Door is up, though it stays up year round.

New light covers

Happy snowmen though they look creepy when not lit up

Monet and Me

Hey Kid!

Monet and I want to remind you when you go into CVS and you see this new Santa, we want you to walk on by. Do not purchase Santa when he goes on sale, no matter how many points and coupons you have to make the sale practically nothing. One life-size Santa with dead eyes in the house is enough.

Thank you.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

The scarecrow acts as a weathervane, but it's still creepy when the wind blows so the scarecrow suddenly faces the house.

More solar lantern decorations. Himself cut the bottom out of plastic Jack O'Lantern trick or treat buckets and then then fitted them with a solar path lantern. The top of the lantern looks like a witch's hat.

The Watcher

The Lone Marigold

Brilliant Fall colors. I don't know why everyone travels to Vermont, New Hampshire, and the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts to leaf peep. Colors in our own backyard are just as vivid and beautiful.

Colors and leaves no past peak.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Himself has been busy decorating for Harvest and Halloween with a little pumpkin and squash.

Cornstalks tied to the lamppost

Cornstalks, scarecrow, Jack o'Lanterns. The scarecrow acts as a weathervane so it's very creepy when the scarecrow faces the front window.

Ghost and Jack o'Lantern solar stakes

and the ghostie sperm lights.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle covers for the lights? Nope, only lit and from a distance otherwise

they are just Jack O'Lanterns

Santa with the Dead Eyes

At Christmas, I showed the newest decoration Himself bought, a nearly life-size Santa. There was a little bit of a debate about where to put Santa. Inside, the kitties might have thought Santa was their brand-new scratching post. Santa was relegated to the front porch where he could greet (or scare the Hell out of) visitors.

The only problem is Santa took up quite a bit of real estate to leave him out there year-round. I usually have a TV tray table in the corner so people can drop off work or packages for me. Santa couldn't live in the front porch.

Santa with his creepy, dead, eye expression, found a home in the corner of the studio/office behind my computer tower. I positioned him so that he stares directly at Himself when he's sitting at his computer.

T Stands for Christmas at the Wayside Inn - Part 2

Back to the Wayside Inn to looks at the Christmas decorations and antiques in the Inn's museum on the second floor.

Beautiful needlework bed curtains and a quilt

Christmas tree in the large function room

Decorated settle

another rustic wreath

framed cross-stitched Santa

chandelier in the main function room

Snow people for Divers and Sundry

Antique desk

Around the room memorabilia along with the history of the Inn when Henry T Ford owned the property. One story, he had started a school for boys during the Depression. One graduate from the Class of 1938 recounted how the first day he arrived, he was assigned to pick potato bugs from potato plants. He wasn't having any of that so he began walking down the Post Rd. He got a mile or so away and then thought about the foster family he would have to return to. He said he turned around and went back to the school and he was glad he did.

One surprising fact was the December 1955 fire which destroyed the 2nd floor of the Inn along with hundreds of thousand of dollars of antiques.

My drink reference, the pretty, little tea cup on the antique desk.

Celebrating 50 years of the Sudbury Garden Club decorating the Inn

The entry way from the front door

Tower of gifts. I liked the Christmas tree shadow on the wall.
