Class Notes

Today is homework day. A few doodles from the notes and instructions I took in class. Sometimes the doodles help to remember the finer points or bits of instructions.

In order to make good letter forms, we must train our hand, eye, and mind to work together. Making letters with a pencil (aka Pencil Skeletons) is a good way to practice the shape and proportions of the letter. The skeleton is supposed to be juggling a hand, eye, and a brain.

From other people who have taken a class with Reggie, I heard the phrase, "You're not old enough." when a question is asked before Reggie has gotten to that point in the lesson. I thought it was just a myth, but he really says it.

Don't use hot water to rinse or wash your paint brushes. And, the eye is the arbiter of what is good.

  1. This seems like it would be a good exercise for the memory cells as well.

  3. Good way to take notes using those little sketches. I wonder if that is a suggestion I should make to my kids at school. :) Hope you are staying warm and praying to the spring god and not the snow god we get to miss this HUGE storm that is suppose to be coming. (I am for sure)Hugs-Erika

    1. Just make sure you tell them to doodle in their notes when they are home and studying. If they doodle during class, they may miss the important parts of the lecture.

By the sound of it, this storm doesn't even have a chance of missing us. )-:

  4. I am in awe of your note taking, but quite confused over the juggling act. Goes to show I would never make a calligrapher!

    1. I just jot a few things down during the lecture. the doodling happens when I go back later to go over the notes. Tomorrow I'll try to explain the juggling act.

    1. I think Reggie said not to use hot water because the hot water could cause paint to clot in the ferule. Or something like that
