T Stands For Gifts For The Person Who Has Everything

One of my students brought in the Fountain Pen Hospital catalog. He knew I would go wild over the scrimshaw and silver Wild West fountain pen. Hey, Kid, if you're in need for a gift idea for Mother's Day, my birthday, our anniversary, I just checked the website and this beauty is on sale. Marked down from $2,750.00 to $1,895.00. Just a thought. 😸

I was on a tea break and used the dregs of my tea to hold down the pages of the catalog to take pictures. I liked the Starry Night pen based on the painting by Vincent van Gogh. It's one of my favorite paintings. Compared to the price of the Wild West pen, it's reasonably priced at $289.00. The rollerball and ballpoint pen were even less expensive.

Just love me the blue pens from the Michelangelo collection.

There were so many pens. So many colors and styles and prices. I really liked the pens based on Frank Lloyd Wright's designs: Playhouse Black, also in white, and April Showers, too.

For a whimsical writing instrument, you could choose a rollerball pen as a fun crayon or a good old number 2 pencil. Very reasonably priced at $39.00

Of course, a beautiful pen needs a pen rest.  My dad was an attorney, and he would have liked the Scales of Justice. The hand, skull, and Write No Evil were fun, but I like my Ink pen rest the best.

A pen collection also needs a safe and sturdy house to live in. The small blue chest holds 20 pens and the larger, blue chest hold 60. You don't want to know the price of the chests.

The catalog has lots of pens from lots of manufacturer's. Waterman, Visconti, Mont Blanc. I was surprised to see this spread from Parker. I received a Parker fountain pen when I graduated college Dad gave me his Parker fountain pen, too. I also was gifted with two silver pen and mechanical pencil sets by Cross. Do people still give graduates fine writing instruments? Doesn't seem to be much of a need for a pen to sign a document anymore. We recently completed a loan application and had to make a digital signature. No paper. No pen.

  1. I was on the list for receiving these freebie catalogs for awhile. I've used the pens in several of my collages. The crayola pens are new to me, though. My favorites have always been Mont Blanc, but I DO like the Van Gogh, too. Do they still have the huge collection of Dali pens? They did an entire catalog on him one year.

Thanks for sharing this catalog while drinking your tea for T this Tuesday. And I apologize again for not visiting this past week.

    1. I didn't see any Dali pens in the catalog. Maybe those are still on the website.

No worries about not visiting. As The Duke said, "Don't apologize. It's a sign of weakness" - She Wore a Yellow Ribbon

  2. I always used to write with a fountain pen when I was younger and still have a couple of Parker ink pens 😊 . I really enjoyed looking through the catalogue with you, it was so interesting to see all those beautiful pens and accessories. I think I prefer your pen rest too 😊 . Wishing you a Happy T Day! J 😀

    1. I always loved using my fountain pens. I should go dig them out, give them a good cleaning, and see if they still work. Thanks for dropping by

  3. I forgot to mention, the ramen noodles I buy are in packages, not cups. Yes, those cups are filled with sodium. I suspect the packages are, too. But at least with the packages, you can limit the amount of seasoning you use (and they are much cheaper, too).

    1. The girlies like the cups for the convenience, nuke water and fill. We also buy the packages in cartons of 12. The girlies like them, but not my cup o'soup. Though I did have a spinach salad at a pot luck that someone made with crushed, raw, ramen noodles and it was quite good.

  4. "Fountain Pen Hospital" - how unique! You must have been drooling ovver every page, CJ. I love the Starry Night pen too. It's also one of my favorite Van Gogh paintings, along with Starry Night over the Rhone, and Cafe Terrace at Night. I guess I just love his stayy skies ;-)

    Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

  7. Gosh that catalogue looks fantastic, good job I was sitting down when you mentioned the prices. Still I'm sure folk who collect special pens may have thought they were a bargain.
    Happy T day.

  9. Wow! What a beautiful catalogue. (But what ridiculous prices!) I have always loved fountain pens. I was given my first Waterman in 1962. For may years I wrote with a fountain pen in turquoise ink, that was a sort of signature colour for me.
Thanks for sharing that ususual catalogue.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,

  11. Forgot to tell you - we use a 2 for I ticket for the cinema so it is quite a bargain. sometimes we go to Silver Screen showing which is for over 55's - usually the films are about 4-6months behind their original showing date, but at £3 each and coffee and biscuit included it is a better bargain still - these showings are at 11 and 2 on Tuedsays and Thursdays swapping times for different films on the 2 days. Of course we don't take food to those - in fact we only took food this time because the film we wanted to see was at lunch time and being diabetic I had to eat(which we did when we got in while the adverts were on) Chrisx

    1. A friend and I were just talking about briefcases. When I was a consultant (company fancy name for computer programmer), I carried a briefcase. Friend's son was throwing away a computer backpack. The Young One uses a messenger bag.

  13. such a fun post! especially since I rediscovered fountain pens to use in my planner/journal. Mind you, the one I ordered was about 5 bucks! I could never spend even $50 on a pen because I would be afraid I'd accidentally leave it somewhere. but I do love the way they feel when they write on good paper...you cracked me up with your commentary. I don't know anyone who would spend over $2,000 for a pen. Guess I don't run in the correct circles! ;) happy T day!

    1. I wouldn't purchase an expensive pen for myself, but wouldn't say no if it was a gift. Bic makes a disposable fountain pen. Came in a set of 3 (blue, black, and red ink) for under $10. That's more my speed

  14. We _love_ that catalog! Our favorite game is reading a description aloud, showing the picture of the pen, and then asking, "How much do you think that one cost?" lol

    Happy late T Day :)
