T Stands For Another Piece of the Puzzle
Sometimes researching your genealogy is a bit like trying to put a puzzle together without an idea of what the final picture looks like. That's where I'm at trying to find links for my mother's side of the family. The Elders didn't really talk about their families or maybe were waiting for us in the younger generations to ask. And we didn't.
The above photograph is my grandmother seated on the right when she first arrived in this country from Italy. She was about 16 or 17 years old the picture is from 1910 or so. The young woman on the left is her cousin. My mother had told me that but she never mentioned the woman's name and the photograph is not labeled.
Recently, I connected with a first cousin on Facebook. My grandmother lived with his family when he was young. Maybe he would know the answer to my questions.
He didn't have the answers I was looking for, but he had a couple of clues. When he was between the ages of 8 and 11, he went with my grandmother to Yonkers, New York. to visit her cousin. He had the last name of the family and he said Grandma's cousin's name sounded like Sipipinella. He also mentioned the name of a cousin close to his age. He told me this cousins profession and the last place he worked/lived in New York. This cousin would be the grandson of Grandma's cousin and our third cousin.
My cup of tea and sticky note pad where I scribbled the information while chatting with my first cousin.
Through Ancestry, I was able to search through records and came up with the name of the woman I think may be my grandmother's cousin. Her name was Giuseppina. Which to a kid half paying attention to old ladies talking might sound like Sipipinella.
An Internet search on the male cousin's name brought me to LinkedIn. I sent my first cousin a message asking him if the name of Grandma's cousin was Giuseppina and the LinkedIn link for the third cousin. Yes!
The hard part was sending a 25 word or less note (LinkedIn restricts the message size) with all my bona fides to my third cousin without trying to sound like a stalker, axe murderer, or a relative looking for a handout.
I was excited last night to get a note from him saying he had tried searching at various times for that part of his family and he sent me his contact information. And now I'm another step closer to fitting this section of the puzzle together.

Happy Mail
A couple of weeks ago, Lady Caer Morgana from The Wicca Life held a raffle for a Spring wreath. I was in such desperate need of warm weather and sunshine I entered, and I won the wreath. Informed Delivery from USPS told me a package was arriving on Friday.
Himself and I came home from running errands and there was a giant box on the front stoop.
My first thought was "What the hell did I buy?" This couldn't be the wreath. Two years ago in another contest by my Lady, I won a 6 inch Winter wreath. I thought the wreath I was expecting would be a companion piece.

And it was. Just a bigger, 12 inch wreath. So very cute. Pastel colors, flowers, and a fuzzy bunny. Perfect timing to remind me to set the clocks ahead an hour this weekend.
My Lady even included a lovely Spring card with a decorated envelope
Even the back of the envelope was decorated.
Thank you, my Lady. The wreath was a wonderful surprise and now it's adding cheery color and warm weather thoughts to the Studio on this once again snowy Sunday.

How Does Your Garden Grow?
Sunny but cold, blue skies. Hard to believe there's another storm on the way
Somebunny running back and forth
A depressing sight
View from the garage
Measurement from the hood of the car as I couldn't get the front door open.
The mailbox survived another one.
Mountains on top of the window boxes
Snow cone, anyone?
Gruff's bench is nearly buried
After the storm, a glorious sunset
Cold temps but a high sun angle melts the snow off the roof to form dragons' teeth
A Blue Jay stops by to enjoy a cold breakfast
The dragon's tooth melted.
And today, more snow to change to sleet to change to rain. Is it July, yet?
How does your garden grow?

Saturday Afternoon at the Movies
This idea came from a Facebook meme:
Over 10 days, post your 10 all time favorite films. What movie has really made an impact on you or what films can you watch over and over and never tire of? Post either the movie poster, DVD cover or even a screenshot on your timeline. No need to explain.
Only I had a hard time picking out just 10 movies so my favorites over the next few hundred Saturdays 😸 in semi-alphabetical order:me favorite films. What movie has really made an impact on you or what films can you watch over and over and never tire of? Post either the movie poster, DVD cover or even a screenshot on your timeline. No need to explain.

The Friday Five Good Things
Five good things that happened this week.1. Took down the Christmas/Winter cardinal curtains and put up new curtains.
2. The Canson Rives paper worked just fine to make a journal for the upcoming Gratitude journal workshop.
3. Saw the cardinal pair perch on the honeysuckle vine and peer into the sun room. Ma and Dad checking to see how preparations for Dad's 100th birthday party are coming along
4. Looking forward to a Spring wreath arriving I won in a blog contest.
5. Himself cooked a nice stir fry dinner. All I had to do was make a salad. What a team!
How was your week?

We returned to her parents' home as they had more rooms than my parents and her father talked to Mary about room and board which was more than reasonable. Leaving me to decided what I wanted to do.
My problem should I go back to college on the G.I. Bill or see a job? I could have gone to the Boy's Club, but that did no please me at all. Mary had her job and in the community that we were in, going to school while the wife worked was not the thing to do. Not there. Her parents would not understand. Going to college as a day student would not sell. There was no understanding that there was a sacrifice to be made for a good future. Most Italians expected that the husband was not doing things [ed: working]. Their thinking. I took some time and began looking for a job. My going to college would get me some money if I went days plus my disability. I could have done it, if I was single. But I did decided I should try college. I went to Boston University. The person who interviewed me was not interested in me. He was surprised with my knowledge, my reading ability, etc. and he was having a hard time staying awake. His questions and attitude were ridiculous. So I said I'll see you later, good-bye.
Of course, your mother was for my going to school. Also I was getting a little edgy. Life wasn't like I learned from the Arnolds. On one of my walks in Boston, I ran into a person I knew who was a social worker and we had a chat. He said that the Women's Industrial Center was looking for an assistant director. The next day I went to the North End [ed: of Boston] and was interviewed. The director was looking for someone who had experience, etc. I did not have a graduate degree as a social worker and this he said he needed the employee now. And didn't have to be strict on college education at the time. And how I would work that out would be up to me. I mentioned that I trained under Charlie Arnold. And that ended the interview. He said, "If you worked for Arnold, you do not need to submit a resume. Arnold is a top social worker and I'm sure that you got excellent training. Go home talk it over with your wife and if she says yes, you have the job." At that time the custom in the area of community centers, wives were expected to take part in the activities and render service.
It was late in the afternoon and I went home. When Mary came home I told her that I had a job, etc. And she turned it down. She said that she didn't intend to work in that area where they got two employees for one salary. On the Monday I returned and told him it was no go.
