Himself read that someone on the town Facebook page was asking where to get to the best lobster roll. There were quite a few suggestions, but JP's Pub in Westboro (of if you're fancy, Westborough) came up.
We were going to be in Westboro at an appointment so decided to go a little early and stop for lunch. It wasn't the best day to have lobster. It was cloudy and chilly, but we had our minds set for lobster roll.
JP's is a little hole in the wall located in the Ocean Stat Job Lots plaza. The place was cozy, decorated with sports memorabilia and a popular spot for weebles (old people). We fit right in.
The restaurant had an extensive menu and the lobster roll was a daily special. It came with a choice of Cole slaw or French fries (crisps). I had the fries.
This lobster roll was lobster salad. Lobster meat mixed with celery and mayonnaise. I usually prefer my lobster roll with lobster and a side of drawn butter. Lobster salad is usually more celery and mayonnaise mixed with a little, shredded lobster.
JP's lobster roll was the opposite. There were generous chunks of lobster and not too much mayonnaise. (I'm not a big fan of mayonnaise) It was all packed into a New England hot dog roll. (The opening is on the top instead of the side)
The restaurant didn't have an Arnold Palmer (half lemonade and half iced tea), but the waitress said she could make it for me.
The only down-side was the restaurant only took cash. There was nothing about cash only on the website or the door of the restaurant so you didn't find out you needed cash until the bill came and the waitress said we don't take debit or credit cards. There was an ATM at the back of the restaurant so we were able to get cash. The ATM fee was $1.00 so not too bad.
Other than not knowing about cash only, it was a very nice lunch.

I had my first lobster roll of the season this past weekend too. And it was a chilly and not very summery day either. It's in my T day post today too. It' And I like how you'd escribe it also. I guess our great minds were thinking a like...Have a super T day CJ.

I only carry cash when I go out with Teague as we split the bill. Everywhere else I use debit or credit card
DeleteBoy that seems important enough to extensively advertise... good thing they had a machine in the back or you'd be washing dishes! So glad you a nice experience though... We are getting bored of our restaurants but the next town of any size is nearly 100 miles away... We used to travel that distance to go to Olive Garden back in the day but now we have our own Olive Garden... Our RedLobster wen out of business so we would have to go the 100 miles for Red Lobster.. we might for our anniversary coming up :) Hugs! deb

DeleteYUM! There's a new place down here for lobster rolls but $70 (per roll) seems a bit expensive to me.....😲
ReplyDeleteOuch! That is very expensive. I mean lobster is expensive, but we paid about $32 for the lobster roll. Not too bad. I paid $50 for lobster roll at a fancy restaurant in Ogunquit!

DeleteYou're the second blog I rad about lobster rolls. I've never had one.I don't think they do them in Europe. And even then, I'd be reluctant to pay 32$ for a bread roll.
ReplyDeleteCash only? That is a surprise. I don't usually carry cash either. I do have a habit of carrying a 20 Euro note in my mobile phone case, just in case. I have just come back from a trip through Europe (from London to Istanbul) and I did not change currency anywhere. They took cards everywhere, even in Turkey, and even for little things like a fridge magnet.

It's a small restaurant so I wasn't surprised by cash only. I was surprised that cash only wasn't advertised on the website or a notice on the front door

DeleteLike Nicole, I've never had a lobster roll. I have a friend who went with me to Red Lobster once and picked out the live lobster she wanted to eat. I actually prefer shrimp. Your meal looks good, but like you, if I ever got a lobster roll, I would want it with butter. I am allergic to mayo.

Harry's , the restaurant we usually frequent, is cash only, but it's posted on the door of the restaurant. They also have an ATM inside just in case you don't have enough cash.
