Greeting Cards

Saturday last was the second day of the calligraphy workshop I taught at the Worcester Public Library. The students have been learning  Uncial or Celtic hand which was used across Europe from the 4th to the 9th centuries (CE) across Europe. The writing has been associated mostly with Ireland.

The first week, using calligraphy markers, students learned the basics of this calligraphic hand. On Saturday, they put their new found skill to work to create greeting cards. The library provided the supplies. I brought in bits and pieces of decorative papers for the students to use. (No, not generous. Helps clean out the stash.)

One thing I enjoy is seeing the different variations on the same theme. I think the students did a great job and had a wonderful time. I know I did.

  1. Wow, these are fabulous. I suspect they learned a LOT and enjoyed the time they got to learn from you. You have proven you are a wonderful teacher because they made some fabulous cards and practice letters, too!

    1. A teacher can only open a door. A student must cross the threshold.

  2. I wondered where you were going to be working Saturday.
This sounds like so much fun. If I was closer I would have taken it in a heartbeat.
    Good job!!!!

  4. I like that would be a great class. Do you have a lot of students? Are you downtown at the Main Library? So many questions. Sounds like fun. Hugs-Erika

    1. Yes, I'm at the main library in downton Worcester. Right across the street from the Turtle Boy statue. The class was supposedly filled at 12 students. Students had to sign up and were supposed to commit to all 3 classes. The first day only 7 of the 12 showed up. There was a wait list but too late to call people. 3 students did walk in and when it was obvious, those that signed up were a no show, I had them stay. So I had 10 students.

On the second session, of the 10, only 7 showed up and made cards.
