On the drawing board with a trusty cup of tea at my side, is a layout and design for an art show I'm entering. Deadline is 15. March 2017 and the theme is A Sense of Place.
I've chosen the Bible quote for Ruth 1:16, And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. The quote is from the King James version of the Bible which is the only version of the Bible that is in the public domain.
I've laid the quote out on graph paper 11 inches by 14 inches. I toyed with the idea of going smaller but decided that was going to be too much of a strain on my poor, old eyes. Framing will be expensive so decided to stick with a standard size.
Scatter on the table are some books to look through for inspiration.
An illuminated, initial A with a traditional vine are planned. The shape of a capital "A" reminds me of a bird house which will be in the enclosed square with the vine trailing down the left side and across the bottom. Red, green, and blue, traditional colors, will be used as well as 24 karat gold leaf.
Thinking of two birds, most likely in red, one on or in the bird house and one at the bottom of the vine are planned.
While flipping through a catalog, I found enameled, birdhouse boxes which was the image I had in my head. Serendipitous!
What are you working on today?
Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang are up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.
This is going to be wonderful, CJ. I think the quote will go nicely with your calligraphy. You write so well! That layout is already looking good, and you haven't really started, yet. Looks like you have lots of inspiration, though.
ReplyDeleteBleubeard and I want to thank you for the gift. Sorry, my computer woes are still not quite over, but Scott has ordered cables, which are apparently what is holding things up at the moment. I can't give the mouse to Squiggles or let him near it. He will throw it into the water bowl. I've had to fish two of Bleubeard's out already. He throws his in, too, of course.
Thanks for sharing this start of your art show layout and your cup of tea with us for T this Tuesday. And thanks again for the mouse.
Thank you, Elizabeth. i won't give up my day job. Guess my crochet and embroidery skills still need work. The little critter was supposed to be a kitty :-D Too funny about your kitties tossing their toys in the water bowl. At least you can use the crochet mouse-kitty thing as a stress ball until the computer cables come in. Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteWell you sound like a busy little bee CJ... Me? Just working on the house...getting out and taking my walks.... making a few PostCards now and then.. not too much... Going to enjoy this warm day because we cool off again starting tomorrow.. Happy happy T day! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteWith a coating of slush from yesterday's storm may be awhile before I get out of the house. Enjoy the warm day for me. Thanks for dropping by
DeleteCan't wait to see the finished piece. Your layout sounds beautiful. Two red cardinals! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robin. I thought the cardinals would be fitting.
DeleteThis is a lovely quote to use, I always admired Ruth's spirit at not leaving Naomi. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI thought it summed up a sense of belonging and place. thanks for the visit. Happy T Day to you
DeleteOh my, that is going to be beautiful when finished, and I am looking forward to seeing it.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day
I'm looking forward to seeing it finished, too.
Delete(-; Enjoy your T Day
OK, I'm a dufus. Yes, it IS a kitty. I was so quick to respond that I had received your gift, I got mixed up. Guess I had mouse on the brain.
ReplyDeleteBTW, only Squiggles throws objects in the water bowl. It disgusts Bleubeard when he does it. I tried two water bowls, but ONE of them (not sure which) dumped the "new" one over twice, so I gave up.
Potato, Potahto. I don't blame Bleubeard. Love the personalities of animals. How can people claim animals don't have emotions?
DeleteBeautiful drawing in progress.
ReplyDeleteHappy T day!
Thanks. Happy T Day to you!
DeleteGreat start to your page and the rest of the design sounds wonderful, especially the bird house and vine - it'll look magical when it's finished :-). Happy T Day! J :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope so! Thanks for stopping by J. Have a happy T day!
DeleteSounds like a beautiful piece of art.
ReplyDeleteHappy T day!
thank you, Linda. Enjoy your T Day, too
DeleteIt's going to be beautiful. Don't forget to share when it's finished.
ReplyDeleteDo you use the King James version because you like the old language? Otherwise the NIV can be used. The copyright agreement goes as follows:
"The NIV text may be quoted in any form (written, visual, electronic or audio), up to and inclusive of five hundred (500) verses without express written permission of the publisher, providing the verses do not amount to a complete book of the Bible nor do the verses quoted account for twenty-five percent (25%) or more of the total text of the work in which they are quoted.
When the NIV is quoted in works that exercise the above fair use clause, notice of copyright must appear on the title or copyright page or opening screen of the work (whichever is appropriate) as follows:
THE HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION®, NIV® Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica, Inc.™ Used by permission. All rights reserved worldwide.

I thought I'd copy that for you in case you would like to use a (in my eyes)more user friendly translation.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
I use the KJV only because it was the only copyright free source that I knew about. Thanks for letting me know about NIV. The problem with NIV would mean the use text would also have to be included. That would add lots more lines and space! WIth KJV all I have to do is add one line with chapter, verse, and (KJV) And yeah, I think I like the old language and how it fits with calligraphy. Thanks for letting me know about the NIV copyright. Have a happy T Day
DeleteLisca, thanks for adding this helpful info.
DeleteHappy T Day
ReplyDeleteYour project looks very interesting and will be beautiful when finished for sure.
Love Chrissie xx
Thanks, Chrissie, I hope so. Have a Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteHi CJ, I just wanted to thank you for stopping by Marmelade Gypsy from Sandra's. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your lovely work (and beautiful cat) in the future! Hope the art show entry goes well. Been there, done that and it can be a bit of a nailbiter!
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanie, thanks for dropping by.

ReplyDeleteHappy T day
Yvonne
I hope so, too. (-: Happy T Day

ReplyDeleteHappy T Tuesday!
Yup, it's a juried show. Fingers crossed
DeleteThat's going to be amazing when it done. I can't wait to see the finished piece. Hope it was a great T day and not too icy where you are. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI hope so. Mostly slush down this way. Enough of a mess to cause problems for The Eldest on her way home from work Happy T Day
DeleteOh my, it looks like a beautiful page-in-the-making...I love illuminated pages!! maybe you can post the finished piece later on? happy T day a bit late!
ReplyDeleteWill do
DeleteYour concept sounds wonderful, CJ. I didn't know that some versions of the Bible aren't in the public domain. That just doesn't seem right somehow. I read Lisca's additional info. I'm with you in preferring the old language. It's more poetic and more suitable for art in my view. Good luck with the piece and with the show!
ReplyDeleteHappy T Day!
I was rather surprised when I found out about Bible publishers copyrighting the Bible. Thanks for your good wishes
DeleteThis is going to be a beautiful piece when finished!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stacy
