T Stands for Comfort Food

When I'm nervous, upset, or just not feeling well, I want some comfort food. My go to choice is tea with cinnamon and sugar toast. That is, hot buttered toast sprinkled with a little cinnamon and sugar.

It's a feel good memory from when I was little. Ma would make me cinnamon toast and then cut the toast into strips (soldiers).

Calli was in the animal hospital for a few days last week. Quill wasn't upset Calli was gone. He just wanted to get a few licks of the butter.

Usually, the every day blend of tea is just fine. This time around, I paired the cinnamon toast with Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Tea. The tea is very fragrant with cinnamon notes. Each teabag makes two cups of deliciousness. The taste of the tea reminds me of the Fireballs (cinnamon candy) I loved as a kid.

What's your favorite comfort food?

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth’s blog to find out what the rest of the T gang is up to. If you want to play, include a beverage or beverage container in your post. Don’t forget to link your blog from Bleubeard and Elizabeth’s page.

  2. Wow you are taking me down memory lane-my Mom always made us kids cinnamon toast too when we weren't feeling well or needed a pick me up. Your tea sounds delicious too

  3. I love this tea! I could drink it all day if the spiciness didn't irritate my belly. Comfort food...well just about anything tasty and sweet for me. I love dessert!
    Your dishes are lovely.
    Happy Tea Day,

  4. I love cinnamon toast, made just like yours. I keep a sugar shaker of cinnamon-sugar to make it easy -- it's also useful for sprinkling other foods.

  6. I remember growing up getting cinnamon toast too:) I do love the taste of cinnamon and besides, it's good for you so it gets added to my oatmeal in the mornings. I think my favorite comfort food is pizza:) Happy T day!

  7. Your cinnamon toast sounds amazing, I'm going to give it a go too 😁. I've featured this tea before too, I was introduced to it when we stayed with our friends in
wine and I liked it so much that I brought some back with us, unfortunately it's all gone now. I think my favourite comfort food must be Cauliflower Cheese as I've found myself eating it quite a lot lately. Happy T Day! Hugs Jo x

    1. I like cauliflower. My mother used to make a nice salad of it raw. I'm not a fan of cheese.

  10. Ironically, I fixed cinnamon toast two nights ago. I make big batches, some of which I divide, then add ginger, cardamom, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg to the cinnamon and sugar. I slather on the butter (no fake stuff for me) and add the cinnamon/sugar combo that I keep in fancy containers right on my kitchen countertop next to my toaster.

I've never had that tea before, nor have I heard of it. However, I am in love with the idea that it tastes like those Fireballs. Thanks for sharing your tea and cinnamon/sugar toast with us, along with Quill for T this Tuesday, dear CJ. As for comfort food for me? Anything, but mac and cheese and that toast are high on my list.

  13. Favorite comfort food for me-is usually very fattening. Bread with butter, chocolate, a big mug of tea. Well I guess the tea isn't fattening as I drink it plain. I love your Chinese style tea cup and plate for the Lunar New Year, and cinnamon toast sounds good. Hope February starts off well for you, we don't get any snow with the storm at the end of the week, and you have a wonderful T day. Fun hearing about how you stayed at the Anchorage too. I have always wanted to stay there. I used to have a winter rental just down the street. The owners were from Auburn. Small world, isn't it? hugs-Erika

    1. I didn't even connect my teacup with the Lunar New Year! I hope we don't get the ice storm I heard predicted on the noon news. When we stayed at the Anchorage it was a cheap motel. If the spaces along the street at Long Sands were filled up, they would let people park on the lawn. I don't think I could afford to stay at the Anchorage now. It went very upscale. Auburn? It is a small world.

  14. I was raised on comfort food. Mom was great. Her pies were legendary. Dad liked when she made chicken and dumplings. Snack? whatever we baked that week made great snacks.

  16. I never had hot buttered toast with cinnamon and sugar, but I can imagine it being comfort food. Sometimes I crave salty comfort food (potato chips) and sometimes sweet (chocolate). In my opinion, chocolate cures everything.

  17. I love the smell of cinnamon. Tea and toast when not feeling well. Grilled cheese the staple of an Irish household! And can’t live without a spud here…the ultimate comfort food, Irish ice cream

  18. Soups or casseroles work well for me as comfort food.

But my go to drink for everything is tea!

  20. My comfort food was cheesecake, but now that I am on a diet....it is confetti toast (avacodo, jalapeno, red bell pepper, a shredded boiled egg, and a little hot honey on top - all added on top of toast). My Mother made me the same toast you had when I was little but never cut it. She got so much sugar and butter on it that it was amazing and made me happy right away. Sweet post, CJ. Happy T-day and take care of you and the kitties! Hugz
