Saturday Afternoon at the Movies

This idea came from a Facebook meme:
Over 10 days, post your 10 all time favorite films. What movie has really made an impact on you or what films can you watch over and over and never tire of? Post either the movie poster, DVD cover or even a screenshot on your timeline. No need to explain.

Only I had a hard time picking out just 10 movies so my favorites over the next few hundred Saturdays 😸 in semi-alphabetical order:me favorite films. The Friday Five Good Things

Photo by eberhard grossgasteiger from Pexels
Five good things that happened this week.

1. Three Medieval Manuscript Sacred Art workshops are being offered on Enders Island this year. I may have to move to the island

2. Happily we can eat at Five Guys and stick with the Keto plan. You get your hamburger as a lettuce wrap instead of bun.

3. Skyped with The Eldest and watched Worst Cooks

4. The Eldest's town came through the tornado warning without damage.

5. Dinner out at the 99.

How was your week?

Throwback Thursday - The Notebooks

To clear up some confusion, the Notebook passages posted on Throwback Thursday were written by my father and found by me after he passed away. They were his attempt to tell the family history. He was in his late 80s or early 90s when he wrote them. Today's chapter:

One day my 3 stripe sergeant came to me saying he would like to find the native village and see if we could get some souvenirs. He said that he and some of the men had tried to follow the natives to their villagee but each time they lost them in the jungle. They could hear them but that was all.

I suggested that he should try to get a jeep and maybe we could follow them that way. They could be heard yacking. Even though we could see .

He did and about 5 of us could get in including the driver. Three more walked. We started up river, following the sounds made by the natives.

The going was rather rough the jeep wasn't doing so well over the stones and it kept getting to the point where as rugged as it was, it came to a stop.

I suggested that we had better walk. If that jeep climbed a rock and came down hard it could break a rod and other under carriage. We got out and I heard my name called. And there on top of a mound was my friend Sarli. I asked him to come down. He said no. I said damn it come down. Ok and I told him what we were looking for. He came down and took us up a dirt stairway/ We would not have found it.

We sat down and faced one of the most beautiful sights I'd seen. We were face to face with a mountain across from the village. I could down into the abyss. The mountain looked like it was a sponge. The way water poured out of it.

I think in my photo book I have a good picture o fit. Some are missing I know some of my General are gone. I think that my sister, Emma, must have taken some of me as well. I made the mistake of leaving when she was looking at the pictures. If they are there you might want to photocopy some and put them in this whatever you wish to call it.

We got our souvenirs and began our trek down river to our camp. Sarli gave me one that looked like an oar and being puzzled I used it as one and looked at him. He shook his head. Took it back. And pushed the front end forward and then  swung it around and I understood. It was a weapon. The point to kill the person and with the blade end cut the head off.

Not long after we arrived to our camp we heard shots being fired. We ran for our rifles and stood by under cover to see if the enemy was around. Nothing happened for a long while so we returned to our quarters.

The next day we got the story of the shots. It seemed that our Southerners were familiar with corn liquor, also developed coconut milk liquor. Knew how to brew it, etc. Two groups were making it and selling it. The same price. But one group cut their price, which upset the other so they destroyed the others equipment and there was a return salute. So no more brewing.

T Stands for Visit to Santa's Christmas Land and Brunch

Warning: Picture heavy

The Sunday before Christmas, The Eldest took us to Santa's Christmas Land at Kraynak's Lawn and Garden Center. She said co-workers told her about it. Kraynak's does a large Easter display and a Christmas display. The Christmas display went up in September. Merry Thanksgivoween.

People come from all over to see the decorations. The line wound around the parking lot. The line moved quickly past blow ups of

Rudolph

a fire dog

and my favorite, The Grinch

This elf marked the entrance to Christmas Land. I wondered if he was one of the naughty Elf on the Shelf and would let loose with the fire extinguisher. I'm so glad we didn't have Elf on the Shelf when my girlies were little.

Inside, trees decorated with a hundred different themes. I like how they made ribbon candy with ribbon.

Each vignette reminded me of being taken to Jordan Marsh, a Boston department store (later bought out by Macy's) to visit the Enchanted Village and to see Santa.

I thought the pair of swans was very pretty reflected in their mirror ponds.

I couldn't decide if the snowman was cute or creepy.

Loved the polar bear.

There were so many people in line and so many trees, it was hard to get pictures of the whole tree.

The sign made me laugh

Mrs. Claus and the Elf Band rehearsed while

Santa played with his trains

Look, a snowy owl

And a little deer running away from creepy children

Loved the black bears

All the trees are numbered and were for sale.  You could buy the whole shebang or find the ornaments in the store to decorate your tree with a theme.

I wonder how many horses' patoots (what Himself says when the girlies and I are around) Papa Bear is saying as he untangles strings of lights.

This bear enjoys a hot beverage while reading a favorite book

I finally got the tops of some Christmas trees

After wending my way through the line, I could use a cup of tea. Which I got when we stopped for brunch at the Iron Bridge Inn

Not only tea, but Himself and I were able to stick to the Keto diet though it was hard to pass up the waffles, French toast, and pastries for scrambled eggs, green beans, bacon, and sausage. Himself also had roast beef and both of us missed shrimp cocktail. I thought about going up after I finished my plate, but I was too full.

A Merry Christmoose

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

The Wabi Sabi Book

After the Coptic Binding workshop, we were given a homework assignment. We're supposed to fill the book and then show them off at the annual guild Spring Brunch.

I've been thinking about what to put in my book. I debated about covering the book in decorative paper, but I like the black cover and the way the kitty cat bead looks to hold the book closed. I decided to use some of the paste papers we made in the first half of the workshop as end papers to the book. End papers are decorative papers glued to the front and back covers.

I decided the title of my book would be Wabi Sabi. Nothing is permanent, nothing is perfect, nothing is complete.

I would use the book for ideas for short quotes, illuminated initials, drawings, and whatever else strikes my fancy.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Brrrrr.

A new, garden flag warmly welcomes visitors

Frost on the cars

High winds knocked over the post lantern.

Ice in the birdbath

Beautiful striations in the icy puddle.

Sunrise and no snow. No complaints here.

No birds or critters at the feeder.

Frost and ice in puddles on the street, but liquid jewels on the branches of the tree.

An odd sight. Either the wind blew a good size rock into the middle of the bush or the bush is growing around a good size rock.

How does your garden grow?
