Saturday Afternoon at the Movies

This idea came from a Facebook meme:
Over 10 days, post your 10 all time favorite films. What movie has really made an impact on you or what films can you watch over and over and never tire of? Post either the movie poster, DVD cover or even a screenshot on your timeline. No need to explain.

Only I had a hard time picking out just 10 movies so my favorites over the next few hundred Saturdays 😸 in semi-alphabetical order:me favorite films. The Friday Five Good Things

Five good things that happened this week.

1. The sun room is officially open with the help of the space heater.

2. Über productive day. Worked on a commission, planned two lessons for class,

3. Lovely Mother's Day gifts from the girlies. My own, special blend of tea and a silk scarf

4. New sheets and a duvet cover that zips open! No more wrestling with the comforter to get it into the duvet.

5. Happy Birthday to Himself. He's now the same age as I am.

How was your week?

Throwback Thursday - The Notebooks

To clear up some confusion, the Notebook passages posted on Throwback Thursday were written by my father and found by me after he passed away. They were his attempt to tell the family history. He was in his late 80s or early 90s when he wrote them. Today's chapter:

We walked out the building and he [ed: Uncle Vincent] headed  toward the Old State House and then up the hill to the state house. We got in the elevator, got out and went down the corridor and came to a sign over an open door entitled executive office. On each side of that door were a number of people sitting and waiting. As we approached, the receptionist said, "Go right in, Mr. Mottola. He's waiting for you." And we were ushered in to the Governor's office. His name was....and he ran a campaign logo, "Had Enough" which ousted a democratic governor out of office. The Republicans were in. [ed: Seems Dad couldn't remember the name of this governor. Looking through a list of Massachusetts governors and knowing this is 1951 or 1952, the Republican governor was Christian A. Herter who narrowly beat out Democratic governor, Paul A. Dever. Herter served from January 1953 to January 1957] Uncle introduced me to the governor. It would not be the first and last time. There were others and as you know you received a phone call from one who wanted you to deliver a message to me he only gave you a first name and said I had his telephone number. You told him unless he told you who he was, you would not deliver the message He said "I'm the Governor." You were either 6 or 7 at that time. [ed: My Governor Story]

The Governor asked Uncle a couple of questions about something that was on the agenda. Uncle gave his opinion and we left. The questions were whether or not he should support the legislation.

We returned to the office. My cousin, Ned, helped me a lot. He was good when it came to writing petitions to the courts. He trained me well. No one ever (lawyer) ever was successful in having any of my petitions thrown out. They all went to trial or settled with me.

I went with my cousin when he went to court and with my uncle. To sit in as it was described, but it did not produce any money. I was scrounging around and built a little tax clientele. Some wills and small stuff. I also got to be good on research and writing briefs.

T Stands For Some Bunny Turns One

Our grand-niece turned one year old.

The seat for the Guest of Honor. The drink reference is the pink sippy cup.

Bunny ears and eggs for an Easter egg hunt for the children. There was lots of food besides the crudites and fruit kabobs with their Peeps toppers. The house is little like The Dollhouse so it was hard to get around the crowd and get pictures. Lots of food, lots of drinks.

Gifts galore!

The Birthday Girl enjoyed the little pullout sofa.

Some bunny's birthday cake with lots of candles for cousins to help blow all the candles out and make wishes.

The Birthday Girl with her whale spout hair-do was more interested in the blinking lights of the number One than her

personal smash cake. Happy First Birthday, Baby G and many more.

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

My Garden Also Grows...

Tuesday last, around 11:11 AM, the electricity went out. I tried to notify the electric company of the power outage, but the app needed to be updated and it took forever. No one on the Facebook town site was having problems with their electricity.

I wandered into the living room thinking I'd go old school and just call the electric company. I saw a police car in front of the house and an officer walking down the front steps. I opened the door and asked if I could help him.

"I thought no one was home..."

(Note to self make a note for the storm door. Knock out of order. Enter porch and ring the doorbell)

"Did you see a red truck hit the telephone pole at the end of your driveway?"

"Oh, so that's why the electricity went out."

"Yeah, your house and probably that house." He pointed with his chin to the Leaf Lady's house. "The guy knocked the framus at the top of the pole. See?"

I squinted. Couldn't see a thing, but offered an, "Oh! I couldn't get through to the electric company to notify them of the outage. And I didn't see or hear anything."

"That's ok. My dispatcher called in the outage. The guy left his tire on your lawn. I'll send Highway over to remove it. Has that pole always been leaning like that?"

"Thanks. Yeah. It's not the first time the pole has been hit and the pole is in the ditch so not in real solid ground."

His turn to say Oh.

Lots of hub-bub on the town's Facebook page. No one but us lost electricity. A lady further down the road said the guy drove by her house real slow. Like 30 miles per hour. Another woman further down the road, said sparks from the rim ignited leaves at the end of her property. Fortunately, she and her husband had just gotten home so they were able to put the fire out with a garden hose. Someone else said the police caught up with the guy 2 miles from my house.

I boiled water for another cup of tea in Cauldren Fyre. and had a cup of tea. Priorities. The electric company sent a bucket truck and a couple of guys. They got the electricity back on an hour and a half later. I went out to check the damage. A pretty good skid mark into the ditch and the tire.

This is the third time this pole has been hit. The first time by a teen driver driving her daddy's brand-new, little red Porsche. She hit the pole and careened across the street coming to stop a few yards up and not hitting any of the trees. She ran screaming down the street.  I sat with her girlfriend on our steps to make sure she was ok. while Himself went to call the police and report the accident. The second time, a kid driving a truck, bent to retrieve a CD or something that fell in his car. He whacked the pole and sheered it from the base. The pole fell but miraculously landed upright in the ditch though the wires to our house sagged nearly to the driveway. In the middle of the night, the electric company and telephone company argued outside who's pole it belonged to before it was replaced.

So, when I saw this I was 😲 Now, I thought the officer meant, the tire came off the car and the guy continued driving on the rim. But not only did the tire come off, but the axle, suspension. Whatever holds the wheel on the car. The guy must have driven two miles down the road on the chassis. Everyone lean to the left!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Lots of activity in the Cardinal nest. I think the babies have hatched. The nest walls are high, and I can't see in. Papa comes to the nest several times a day. He's sensitive to the slightest movement from the kitchen. I haven't been able to get a picture of him at the nest.

A herd of grackles came to visit.

Papa Cardinal after a visit to the nest.

Forget-me-knots.

Buds on the snowball bushes

Wild strawberries in the lawn

A fine crop of dandelions

Vinca overgrown with weeds

Lily of the valley

Milkweed

Ink's garden needs a bit more sprucing up
