Patron Saint for Home Buyers

Talking with The Nephew and his Fiancée, and their dream of buying a home sometime this coming year. Talk turned to (the superstition of) selling a home by burying a statue of St. Joseph in the front yard of the home to be sold.

The statue can only be of St. Joseph. Most times he's shown with his foster son, The Christ Child. The statue is buried upside down with the eyes turned towards the curb. The idea is St. Joseph then draws in potential home buyers.

We began to wonder if there was any sort of patron saint and ritual, besides a good realtor, to help a buyer find the perfect dream home.

Anybody? Anybody?

  1. I would imagine that it would be St. Joseph. He is the patron saint of home buyers and sellers, as he found his family a place to stay during hard times, before Jesus was born. Albiet a manger, his wife had a roof over her head as she gave birth.
We buried St Joseph's statue when selling our home, but the most important part of the ritual is that he be placed in a prominent spot in your new home, so he may guard over the dwelling...

  3. Well, we buried the statue once when we were selling.....didn't help.

Another time we were selling, a minister came through, didn't want the house, but prayed for a quick sale...didn't help.

And not a clue about the buying end;)
