How Does Your Garden Grow?

The calm before another Winter storm. The squirrel got angsty closed the hatch on the feeder again

and again

The storm, more of a nuisance storm dropped about 3 or 4 inches on us. Just enough for me to shovel as Himself had to teach classes.

Yay! The mailbox survived!

An artisan, hand-crafted driveway.

The snow was wet and not too heavy to push around. Odd needle-like flakes though.

If you wait long enough, the sun comes out, the temps warm up and you don't have to clear your car of snow or shovel your side of the driveway.

No snow on the walk

The back birdfeeder is doing a booming business

A road map drawn by moles, voles, or mice.

Snow melting off the solar array. Not enough sun today to make electricity.

All the Garden Kites I made from brown Kraft paper (paper bags) have blown away through the various storms we had through the Summer, Fall, and Winter. The only one left is the origami crane. Battered by the elements, still she persisted.

Though it feels like Spring at 46 oF (7.78 oC) compared to the below zero temps we had, it still looks like Winter. 150 days until the first day of Summer. Deep sigh.

  1. It still looks very cold and frosty at your place. We even had some Sun here. Hugs, Valerie

  2. It is warmer at your place than mine, and that is just SAD. I am in awe that the origami crane is still hanging on.

Gosh, I would hate to have to trek to the street in icy conditions to get my mail. I guess I can count my lucky stars on that. Yours looks like it made it past the snow plow at least.

    1. I was surprised the origami crane was still there, too.

As to the mailbox, it's always a celebration when it survives the plow. the trek to the mailbox used to be worse when we had to cross the street to retrieve the mail. It's a main road and the cars and trucks just fly by. You needed to be careful not to get sucked into the backwash of the trucks. Maybe 5 or so years ago, the post office allowed us to have the mailbox on our side of the road. The mailbox opens from the front and the back so we don't have to stand in the street to retrieve the mail. The trek to the mailbox is about 75 feet. When it's bad weather, that's what kids are for. =^,.^=

    1. Yeah, but Spring up here is still cold and wet. A lot like Winter with less snow.

  4. I enjoyed all of your snow photos, where we live-in the woods-I don't need to shovel anything although allot of snow is a problem with our long driveway about 1/4 mile I am guessing-then hubs has to plow it with something.
I gave up the squirrels and what is funny they love a challenge-getting into feeders-so I keep the seed out loose and they actually do not bother it as much lol
I won't even tell you then how warm it is here today-high winds though and sunshine-but tonight that all changes with t storms and lots of rain and then cold again Happy sunday

    1. That's what I don't understand about the squirrel. I toss seed on the ground to keep him from closing the hatch. He's just a greedy guts

    2. they are greedy little guys for sure-hubs always gets mad at them and tells them go get a job lol

  5. I was happy to get home today and see some melt. I am ready for it all to go away and move onto spring. But rain Tuesday so maybe we'll get back to total bare ground. So we had a good overnight trip and got home to see the game, but right now the Pats are not looking too impressive. They better have a good second half. Hope it's been a good weekend and start to the new week. Hugs-Erika

    1. Yup, so tired of the white landscape. Heading to PA this week to help the Eldest move so hoping for no snow. Yeah, I've been popping my head in and out to check on the game. Hope they pull it out in the clutch.

  6. I can see why you are wishing for Spring with all that snow! It was fun seeing all the tracks of your garden visitors, they look like they've been busy 😁. Glad your mailbox has survived too! It's been much colder here and we've had sleet and snow all day although it's too wet to settle. So we've stayed indoors where it's nice and warm 😉. Have a great new week! J 😊

    1. I've had enough of sleet and snow for the season. Bring on the warm weather and sunshine. Stay warm!

  7. All our snow melted, and now it's coming back, but this weekend it's warming up again. I wish it would stay one way or another. I love your pictures CJ, but that one of the needle like snow, is cool!
