Throwback Thursday - The Notebooks

To clear up some confusion, the Notebook passages posted on Throwback Thursday were written by my father and found by me after he passed away. They were his attempt to tell the family history. He was in his late 80s or early 90s when he wrote them. Today's chapter:

I was still with Uncle Vincent and acquiring experience. Drawing wills, examining titles, real estat transfers, answering interrogatories and filing petitions in court, and motions and listening to Uncle argue cases.

Things began to look brighter. I was doing some graduate studies at Northeaster University. It was on its last legs. It was an excellent  law school and over the years it made it possible for the University to expand and move up in the educational area. But it did not do anything for the Law School. They had instructors and they were not in the top tier. As I found out.

In September 1952 to June of 1953, I taught corporate law and partnership law and accounting procedures. This helped me. This position was was acquired by a CPA and unfortunately I have lost his name in my mind. He was a wonderful man and gave me a lot of pointers. A short time after the school shut down because they were not getting a cash flow. They had students that had graduated and other in grades due to the failure of the government to pay as each student completed his or her course.

Mother shortly after that asked for her [ed: Persian] lamb coat. I explained to her that I would be able to do that later but at the time I did not have the finances to do that. That I had to build up the business and I needed more cases and it would be some time before I could build a good practice. And then I could do a lot better for her. It was no go. "If you love me, you will buy me the coat." I did and as it would happen. No money was coming in. And eventually in a few months I got behind on the mortgage payment.

Mother then put the Boy in a nursery school with people a short distance from us on Walnut St. named Whittaker. They were wonderful people and accommodated us by keeping the Boy with them until we came home from work . And were able to get back on our feet. While I did get work it wasn't anything to talk about.

T Stands for Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg

But the locals just call it Lake Webstah (pronounced Webster without the distinctive and  sexy Boston accent.)

An unexpected errand found us in the town of Webster. It was dinner time, and we were going to go to a nearby 99 Restaurant for their lobster roll. I then remembered a restaurant in Webster on the lake that my elderly neighbor, Prissy liked and raved about so we set the GPS to find Point Breeze.

The real name of the lake is Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg. The name comes from a Nipmuc Native American tribe. When we first moved out here, I had heard the name meant "I fish my side. You fish your side, and no one fishes in the middle."

I was disappointed when I looked over my pictures that the name of the lake in the banner of the stained glass window didn't show up well.

Too bad it was another rainy Spring day in a long line of rainy Spring days. The restaurant has outdoor seating and sitting outside would have made a pleasant backdrop to dinner. Next time.

I was sitting by the window on the left and switched napkins because I wanted the blue one.

A Tuesday night and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. I didn't mind.

My unsweetened, iced tea with lemon.

A brief history of Point Breeze.

Though there were lots of selections on the menu. The restaurant is noted for its seafood selection. We started off with clam fritters with maple syrup.

A beautiful house salad with Balsamic vinaigrette dressing . And no cheese! I hate cheese. And there were black olives. Love black olives. I gave the Bermuda onion slices to Himself. I'm not a fan of onions.

Himself order Surf n' Turf. Steak, fried shrimp and a side of mashed potatoes.

I debated getting whole belly fried clams, but the weather was not fried clam weather (sunny, warm, but not hot and humid) I chose swordfish with lemon butter, and summer and zucchini squash.

While enjoying dinner we watched an intrepid boater (the black dot in the center of the photo) go from one side of the lake and back again.

The portions were more than generous so we had enough for an awesome lunch the following day. Do you want to build a snowman?

I had looked over the menu online before we got to the restaurant and decided I wanted the Apple Crisp. Most times, there's just no room for dessert and most desserts are not Keto friendly. We've been off the Keto reservation for awhile. I skipped the ice cream because in my family after the Brother had gotten sick eating seafood and ice cream, the combination became taboo. I didn't skip the whipped cream.

Himself order the Blondie Brownie Sundae.  Before desserts came out, a group of four women sitting at a table behind us had ordered dessert. They were all going to share the sundae. Himself saw the waitress bring them their dessert and said he was going to be sorry because

the dessert was enough to feed a small town. I had a taste and it was delicious. Most of the dessert was packed up to take home.

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

Creative Types

Jan from Creative Instigation had a happy, little, time waster on her blog. A test from Creative Types by Adobe Create.

It's a fun quiz to determine what kind of creative person you are and what other creative type would you work best with. I liked the description of The Dreamer and thought it could very well apply to me and probably a bunch of other people just like newspaper horoscopes apply. Go take the quiz. If nothing else, the animations are clever and fun.

If you take the quiz, come back and tell me which creative type you are. According to the test, I would collaborate best with an Innovator.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

The Dollhouse is all spruced up with a coat of new paint. New gutters and downspouts will be installed in two weeks.

The mourning dove likes to spend part of his or maybe her afternoon sitting on top of the bird feeder.

A beautiful afternoon. I loved the contrast of the brilliant blue sky and the red Japanese maple tree

The monsoon Spring rains turned the meadow into a jungle. I'll have to see how much it will cost to rent goats to clear this area.

The first of the season's Garden kites flutters in the breeze

Somebody finally weeded the Zensical garden

I wonder how long it will take for the squirrels to knock over the stone towers?

When the honeysuckle vine blooms it's going to be magnificent.

The glass tube to the rain gauge broke. The replacement glass tube to the rain gauge broke. Himself had an empty, plastic pill bottle that's been repurposed. Not much rain this week unlike other areas across the country.

Saturday Afternoon at the Movies

This idea came from a Facebook meme:
Over 10 days, post your 10 all time favorite films. What movie has really made an impact on you or what films can you watch over and over and never tire of? Post either the movie poster, DVD cover or even a screenshot on your timeline. No need to explain.

Only I had a hard time picking out just 10 movies so my favorites over the next few hundred Saturdays 😸 in semi-alphabetical order:me favorite films.
