Though the contractor still wasn't feeling up to snuff, he arrived early to begin work that could be seen. He removed the old tub, moved the drain, installed the new shower base, framed the shower cabinet, draped it in plastic sheeting and temporarily connected it so we can use it.
After taking the Young One to physcial torture, I stopped at the bathroom supply to check the status of the vanity. Good news, bad news there. The good news is it was in. The bad news is, it was damaged. There was a hairline crack inside the cabinet, and the toe kick was split. I asked the contractor if he could stop by to take a look at it to see if it could be easily repaired.
The bathroom supply said they would give it to us at cost, though I was going to see if I could talk them down. They buy it at cost, new, double the cost and sell to the customer. Their cost is not for a damaged article. Either way, they make money.
The contractor thought the only way the damage I described could have happened was for the piece to have been dropped. He's worried that the vanity would no longer be squared, and would cost more in labor to fix than the cabinet is worth.
The bathroom supply can re-order, but it will take 2 or more weeks to arrive. Will have to see what the contractor thinks before we make a decision.
The bathroom is still ugly though I'm amazed at how much he got done. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the rest of the project goes quickly and smoothly.
Me too on the finger crossing. You're sort of camping right now, huh?
ReplyDeleteYes, Tam, camping. Not really a little princess activity.
ReplyDeleteWhat a learning experience this is for the little princess... The waiting makes it all better, right?
