A show and share table where members could showcase items they were working on.
A White Elephant table where members could sell supplies or items they no longer use.
Those that had taken the Coptic Stitch Book workshop in December or had a hand-made book were asked to work in their book over the Winter. This table was for the Winter books display. I brought my Wabi Sabi book and the Gratitude Journal sample. Nan also came to the brunch. She used her book as a travel journal on a trip to San Francisco with her daughter.
More books to look at. You had to wear gloves in order to hold and turn the pages of the book.
There were also books for sale to benefit the Masscribes scholarship fund and books that were free. I did pick up a copy of Julia Cameron's The Artist Way
After wandering around the room chatting with old friends, making new ones, looking at the artwork, or browsing books and supplies, it was time to eat. I had some chick pea curry, salad, crab rangoon, and falafel. I also had some of the cookies I baked. And a wonderful visit with Nan.

good morning looks like a wonderful gathering with others for your art form. Lots of food and things to see. I was wondering if there were foods you could eat-looks like you were able to-Happy T wishes
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit of a cheat day as I did have some carbs, but everyone needs a treat now and then
Deleteso agree, and quality carbs in moderation I think is really ok too
DeleteThat looks like a good time and its nice you have so many other scribes to actually get together with. It is nice to have people in your life who like what you like so you can do these events. Happy T day CJ. Nice morning but doesn't sound like it is going to last. What a shame that is. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteLooking at the long-range forecast, this unsettled weather doesn't break until the last week of the month. Deep sigh.
DeleteLooks so inviting, and I'm sure everybody enjoyed it. The food and drinks look good and plentiful, too. Have a fun and happy T day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice time catching up with people and seeing beautiful art
DeleteMy sincere apologies. I'm leaving this message for everyone. I had to take my friend Sally to the emergency room Monday afternoon. I stayed with her until the ER doctors ran several tests, then admitted her to the hospital. When I got home, I found my basement was flooded from the many rounds of rain we are having. I'm still getting water out because I have no sump pump. I'll be back by to share T just as soon as I have the water under control, because I don't want mold to set in. For those of you who may not know, Twin Peaks is a sports bar that specializes in busty young, scantily clad female servers.
ReplyDeleteI saw this on a few other blogs. So sorry to hear about Sally. Hope she will be better soon. And I'm sorry for your water woes. Hope you didn't lose too much stuff.
Deletewhat a lovely gathering- great way to raise some money, get some bargains and good food, and meet new people. Your meal sounds delicious! Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteThe weather cooperated and meeting Nan made the gathering even more special.
DeleteWhat a fun looking brunch outing to get to attend. I actually have a link for coptic stitching on my blog. (So far I haven't tried to do it, though.) Happy T-Day CJ!
ReplyDeleteI'm a slow learner so wasn't able to do the coptic stitch in the workshop. I did find a Youtube video with both single needle and double needle (what we did in the workshop) directions. I was able to sew along which I found very helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGYKqaSrWrQ&list=PLoGtsZaPKrqAMwjYtBuz7tIeCwkaBYDkL&index=5&t=0s
DeleteIt looks like you had a very nice day at the gathering. It is always great to see old friends and make news ones, too!
ReplyDeleteI love crab rangoons ) they also call them cheese wantons in some of our Chinese restaurants here. :-)
I've never heard them called cheese wantons. I love wantons, too.
DeleteAnd a good time was had by all! Looks like it was fun! :D
ReplyDeleteYes, everyone enjoyed themselves, and it was fun oohing at the art, picking through the white elephant stuff, and poking through the books.
DeleteMy husband used to be "into" calligraphy when he had better fine motor control and would've _loved an event like this! Your lunch looks delightful :) Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteThe guild is a great way to connect with others who love the art and craft. Many are professional calligraphers so it's a good place to share pricing and tricks of the trade. The guild also brings respected artists in the field and offer classes and workshops.
DeleteWhat fun!
ReplyDeleteIt was!
DeleteWhat a fabulous event and it looks like you had a wonderful time meeting up with friends! So nice to share ideas and talk to people with shared interest too 😁. Your meal looks delicious, so many goodies to chose from - Happy T Day! J 😊 x

"Masscribes" - what a great name, CJ. It looks like a very interesting gathering. I'd love to see some of those books.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day! Eileen xx
Some of the books were drop-dead gorgeous!
DeleteThat looks like a really nice event. Great to see everyone again and share work that you have done.
ReplyDeleteThe lunch table looks inviting as does your plate. You chose well.
The books must have been really special when you have to wear gloves to see them.
Happy belated T-Day,
Lisca
People put a lot of thought and time into their books. I think the gloves were to remind us to take care.
DeleteThis does look a great gathering, really enjoyed seeing your photographs.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thanks for stopping by
DeleteWhat a fabulous event! It is great to share with friends isn't it? Belated
ReplyDeleteHappy T Day! Chrisx
Indeed. Especially the ones that "get it"
DeleteWhat a fun event, the kind I would love to go to! So glad you enjoyed and got to have a visit with Nan. Food looks and sounds great. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteBeing with Nan was the best part
DeleteWhat a fun event. Meeting up with Nan was great, too. I was so glad to see she is back in town and I hope she starts posting again soon. I miss her.
ReplyDeleteI was most impressed that people had to wear gloves when looking through the books. Somehow I hadn't realized that was so important, but I'm glad it was.
Thanks for taking us with to Masscribes brunch for T this week. You were right. You DO know how to eat well. I loved the cream container. I would have gladly had a cup of coffee with you, dear CJ.
I'm trying to talk her into blogging again. The travel book she did on SF was fabulous.
DeleteIf you look at old books or manuscripts, you usually wear cotton gloves to protect the works from the oils on your hands. Though I have heard conservators say,it's not necessary to wear gloves. In this case, I think the gloves were to remind us that a lot of time was spent making the books and to be gentle when looking at them.
What a wonderful, special day CJ! Thanks for sharing all the photos!
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice outing and a good turn out
