T Stands For Lunch on Valentine's Day

I had an appointment on Valentine's Day and asked Himself to tag along. Since it would be lunch time when I was done, I thought we could go out to lunch. Not a romantic lunch. Just lunch. Valentine's Day isn't a big deal holiday with us. It never was.

We didn't have any idea where to go for lunch. Himself suggested the 99, but we've eaten there so many times lately, I wanted something different. We thought we would try Harry's a little hole in the all place with some of the best seafood. Harry's is always busy and on Valentine's Day, there wasn't even a place to park in their postage size stamp of a parking lot. And Harry's doesn't take debit or credit cards. Strictly cash which neither one of us had on us at the moment. Sure, Harry's has an ATM machine inside the restaurant, and you can get cash, but it didn't seem that important to get whacked with the fees from the banks.

Where to? How about Bertucci's? We haven't been there in a long time. Bertucci's is a chain that specializes in brick oven pizza and dishes and a favorite spot when Himself would hob nob with the other Wizards at the college where he teaches.

I usually get the Rigatoni Abbruzzi, rigatoni pasta with sausage, but since it was Valentine's Day, the restaurant was running a special. Soup or salad, several entrees to choose, and a dessert to share. Perfect.

I started with a glass of Prosecco and a salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Himself had a cup of minestrone soup. The waiter also brought rolls with infused olive oil for dipping.

Himself had the Shrimp Rossini. It was delicious. Ask me how I know?

I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana

The portions were so large there was plenty for another meal or two. The waiter came to the table and boxed up the leftovers.

I told him all he had to write for me was M-I-N-E. I label all my restaurant leftovers that way. The waiter found that especially amusing and added a little extra. He didn't know Himself's name so thought it should be Bob.

For dessert the choices were Limoncello Mascarpone Cake or a Cannoli. We had a Cannoli to share. The cannoli was delicious, studded with chocolate chips on the ends, but not the best choice for a shared dessert. The shell is very crispy (just perfect!) and was hard to break. And from an Italian point of view, not very abbondanza. It wouldn't have broken the restaurant to bring 2 cannoli.

We decided to get extra cannoli for a treat later in the evening, and one to bring home to the Young One. The waiter also tossed in some extra rolls and cups of infused olive oil. See, that's abbondanza.

When we got home, there was a Valentine from The Eldest. A sweet ending for a perfect day.

  1. What a wonderful day. I agree ... going to an Italian restaurant makes it so difficult to choose what to have. Pizza or pasta, or more pizza ... I love their lasagne. And tiramisu.

    God bless.

  2. Sounds like a wonderful restaurant for lunch-everything looks delicious and you had a good waiter. I agree they should have given you each a cannoli
One of my husband's favorite desserts. I have made them-time consuming but fun to make.
    Happy T Kathy

    1. I've made the filling but never the shell. I used waffle ice cream cones instead.

  4. Yum, yum, yum. This looks like a super good meal. That is a nice way to spend Valentine's Day. I guess you are getting rain today. My aunt's funeral is in Worcester today and I was suppose to go down, but we have snow here. UGh! Have a super T day. Hugs-Erika

    1. Sorry about your loss. It's not doing anything here at the moment except being gloomy. Worcester and parts north were going to get some snow before it turns to rain.

    1. I only label leftovers from restaurants with the word Mine. The waiter thought it was amusing and added the rest.

  9. That cannoli doesn't look as big as the one in their menu, but it looks delightful, anyway. Of course, now I'm super hungry. Sometimes a change in plans can make for a better outcome than the original. It all turned out beautifully if you ask me. Thanks for sharing your trip to Bertucci's along with your food and Prosecco with us for T this Tuesday. That's a great card from your daughter, too.

  10. Italian food, yum! I lived in the Abbruzzi for 17 years so I know about Italian food and love it. (But I never had rigatoni with sausages). Sounds like you had a really nice meal (plus the abondanza to take home)
I smiled at the 'Mine' story.
Your daughter sent you a beautiful card. I love it.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  13. A restaurant that only takes cash? I'm reeling, clutching my heart.
Glad you had a good VDay.

    1. Yeah, Harry's is a cash only business. There is an ATM inside the restaurant to get cash, but the outrageous fees from the banks don't seem worth it.

  14. It sounds like you had a great Valentine's Day, even though you don't make a big celebration out of it. I like Bertucci's, but unfortunately the ones near me all closed. Their food is good. Happy Belated T-Day!
