Book of Marks Process

The Book of Marks workshop was taught by Jacqueline Sullivan. The book was made out of one sheet of Strathmore 400 Watercolor paper, size 22 in. x 30. The book format is based on Teesha Moore's Amazing 16 Page Journal Teesha Moore used the same size sheet of Fabriano Artistico to maker her journals. The journal measures 8 in. x 10 in. when finished so the 22 in x 30 in. paper size is important.

When the materials list came out and I saw the size of the paper, I had a feeling we would be making the Moore book. I was hoping we would be making a different structure as I've made and taught Moore's journal.  However, there were other mixed media techniques that would be new to me.

The first thing we had to do was gesso portions of the page using any stencils we had. Both sides of the page had to be done. The gesso was to act as a resist for the mark making.

  1. Teesha Moore is an amazing artist, but I can't say I've ever made one of her journals. I hope you share more. I get lazy and don't always gesso my pages first, but I should do it more often as it does create a great base to work on. Happy new week. Sunshine and warmer temps today I believe!

  7. I'm glad you were able to get something out of the workshop, CJ. It would be a shame if it was a rehash of something you had already taught.

My gesso dried up after I bought a HUGE tub of it. Now I use house paint instead of gesso. It's got a softer hand, too. I look forward to learning more about this book.

    1. That's interesting that house paint can be substituted for gesso

  8. I'm unfamiliar with any of it, so whatever you share will be new to me. I do like that circles stencil.
