How Does Your Garden Grow?

Who was the one who put all their Winter things away and brought out their Spring and Summer clothes? Or the one who said it wasn't a bad Winter. At least we didn't get a lot of snow? Well, thanks a lot, pal, because you jinxed it. Winter is making a come back

A red sky morning

I'd rather have a glazed donut instead of a glaze of ice

The ice was like concrete and hard to scrape off

After the first pass on and salt on the front walk. One of the best home improvements we did was to have the stairs at the house electrified.

The salt did its job on the walk, and the electricity melted the ice from the stairs. Safe and dry to walk on.

Cold kitty

Ice encased rails. In the background, Calli watches me take a photograph

Fire and ice

Another red sky morning.

I know, Dedo. I know. Hang in there, only 115 days until the Summer Solstice.

Aw, 🤬

  1. It sure wasn't me who said spring was here. We had snow yesterday and more is predicted for later in the week. Thankfully we didn't have the ice you had. Smart move on the heated steps and that ice melt really works. I hope things improve before you have to get out and about again.

One nice thing where I live, our postal person delivers mail to my porch. If I had to go to the street for my mail, it might sit there till spring! The REAL, not faux spring.

    1. Technically, my route is a rural free route. The postal carrier is not allowed to exit the vehicle so delivers the mail to boxes as he drives by. Up until a few years ago, all mailboxes were on one side of the street only. We used to have to cross the street to get the mail instead of just walking to the end of the driveway. The carriers will deliver packages to the door unless the package can fit inside the mailbox

  2. We got the snow and not a lot of ice, thankfully. We still have some of that rock hard snow underneath from when we were in Florida and the daughter didn't shovel the sidewalk. (but she did shovel the deck so I'm not complaining). Ice is not fun. And like you said, a glazed donut is better than ice glaze. This week looks tough, which is not making me happy either. This year my winter weather restlessness is in bad form. I haven't had this for several years now. Sorry to unload...enjoy your Sunday.

    1. No worries about complaining about the weather. I've been a Gretchen Sunshine listening to this week's forecast.

  3. When I was in HS we had a neighbor who had his looooong driveway (on a steep hill) electrified. We laughed and laughed UNTIL the first snow/ice storm. Joke was on us! (Our driveway was 200 yards long!)

    1. Our driveway is about 75 yds long and gravel. Himself dream someday is to have the driveway paved and maybe to electrify it. He'll either have to win the lottery or work another 40 years. 😺

  5. I have to admit that I have never heard of electrified stairs. I guess I am dumber than I thought. lol! Anyway, sounds like a great idea though.

We have had mostly rain with the temps up and down drastically here. However, WINTER is NOT over just yet unfortunately.

.Have a great rest of the weekend!!

    1. We didn't know about electrified steps until we were looking to replace the brick stairs that fell apart. We had a brochure from a precast concrete stair company and they had a notation for a little extra $$ you can have the stairs electrified and can melt snow and ice. It's been so worth it.

  6. Oh CJ i'm sorry your still in the deep freeze! What a clever idea to do that to your stairs.. didn't know you could do that.. But hey if you can warm a bathroom floor why not your outside steps! It will be 80 F here! Hubs is playing golf! But with 22 mph winds!! I think he's nuts but he says the wind doesn't bother his golf game..lol Hugs! deb

  7. Winter is still here, that's the truth! Even if it's interspersed with days where it's sunny and almost 80. Some of my "winter" clothes have short sleeves ;)

    1. The fire and ice pic made a great sunset. You're forgiven for wearing shorts. If I lived where you lived, I'd wear shorts, too

    1. I'll wish for Summer as Spring here is usually cold and wet. Just not as much snow

  10. I'm always surprised when someone doesn't believe in the Winter Jinx, and even more so when the well intentioned individual makes the comment. Clearly up here Late Feb/Early March has become the worst time of year for weather. The only possible upside is the sun is in such a position at this time of the year the snow tends to melt fairly quickly. This past week ice has been a real problem, let's hope these two upcoming storms are more just snow.

    1. I'm hoping the weather dudes just got excited and are hyping the snow totals and both storms fizzle.

  11. Enjoyed the photos! So, we haven't been able to get out on our street in over five days - the plows are busy on all the hwys that lead to the mountains. It's been a wreck up here. Everyday Mike, several times a day keeps a path dug to the jeep incase we can get out at some point. We have had over six feet of snow and i'm trying to keep the deck halfway shoveled. People are now just being let up to their homes from down below because the hwys have been closed to people coming up but the problem is, once they get up, they probably can get to their houses. It's this way all over the mountain from here to Big Bear. A huge mess but actually beautiful to look at.

  12. I, too, thought Winter was over. Then this past week, it made itself known. Yesterday 4"+ of heavy, wet snow. :-( - Anne (Cornucopia)
