How Does Your Garden Grow?

This year, we're participating in No Mow May. It's a movement to allow the wildflowers to grow to provide food for the early pollinators. It's also rained nearly every day in May so the grass has been too wet to mow.

Himself has been busy planting flowers in pots

The snowball bushes have blossomed. The Alpine bells weren't caught in the avalanche

Johnny Jump Ups

Yellow petunias, but no sign of the Fern Leaf Bleeding Hearts from Anne Cornucopia

What's up, Buttercup?

Something was planted under the dome.

Ink and Lily of the Valley. Ink needs a coat of paint.

This is where the smart bird feeder was supposed to go. Apparently, most of the smart feeders don't work on 5G networks so the feeder will have to be returned.

Speaking of feeders. Rocky and I are now tied. He hasn't been around and hasn't bothered the feeders.

Sadly, the birds haven't been around either. There have been a couple of Goldfinches and House Wrens, but not in the flocks that used to come to the feeders. I don't know if it's because the feeders were moved, the birds don't like the seed, or Himself has been out and about in the yard more.

I have heard the birds. Using Merlin to identify them, I've heard a cardinal, American Robin, Ovenbird, Chipping Sparrow, crows, Mourning Dove, Tufted Titmouse, Black-Capped Chickadee

  2. Your yard looks lovely CJ. My gardens look good, but the lawn, which is the hubby's chore, is a MESS. I don't think we've ever had such large dirt scabs No mowing for us yet either. And yes, the rain hasn't helped, but neither has the dirt sections. Grin. I had my feeder (down for the summer) next to the house so it would work. Sorry yours was such a problem.

    1. I hoping to get a platform feeder with a weight close so squirrels can't get to the seed. I'm also going back to the seed I had used. Maybe they don't like the new cleaner seed (all the sunflower seeds are hulled)

    1. Mmm, raspberries. The iris leaves have poked through the ground, but no flowers yet.

  8. What a lovely glimpse into your garden adventures. I really enjoyed reading about your participation in No Mow May — it’s such a thoughtful way to support pollinators early in the season.

The mix of blooms, like snowball bushes and Johnny Jump Ups, sounds beautiful, and it's always fun seeing which plants make a surprise return. Too bad about the smart feeder not being 5G-friendly — technology doesn’t always play nice with nature. Hopefully the birds will come back soon; sometimes they’re just adjusting to small changes.

It’s great that you’re still hearing them and using Merlin to track who's singing nearby. Your garden may be quieter than usual, but it’s still full of life and care.

    Greetings from Indonesia

  10. Sorry to be late visiting. I was leaving a message here on your awesome flowers when my electricity went off. I was one of 75,000 customers without electricity today. Too bad the smart feeder didn't work with 5G. Not a very smart feeder!
