Monet and Me

are researching why birds may not be coming to the feeder anymore.

Some of the things we read is that the seed has gone off especially if it has rained. It's been raining nearly every day  for the month of May. The feeder may need to be cleaned. So I emptied out the seed and washed the feeder. Since it's supposed to rain over the weekend, what else is new? I'll set up the feeders on Monday.

They may not like the seed if it has red milo and cracked corn. I had changed the brand I was using to a "clean, no waste" feed. That is all the sunflower seeds where shelled. Maybe I'll go back to the other stuff.

The new location may be too close to the house. Maybe put the feeder back where it lived for many years.

Try a different type of feeder like a platform feeder.

So later today a trip to Ocean State Job Lots for bird seed and a new feeder.

  2. It could also be that there is more food int he environment for them to eat, and if they're nesting. you may not see them. This is a big nesting time as many birds have their young early so they're fully grown and functioning come fall. Hope they come back soon. (By the way, I don't have that many at my feeders either lately.)

  4. I hope you get some answers. We don't see so many birds here since they banned feeders (although my friend at the back is breaking the rules and sees a few!) Hugs, Chris

    1. Parochial school taught me a healthy disrespect for authority "rules" so yay for your friend. 😺

  5. I hope your research gave you the answers you need. I stopped putting seed out when the birds started eating things in my grass. I don't put anything on it ever.

    1. Not a clear answer. I'll just have to try a few of the suggestions one at a time.
