How Does Your Garden Grow?

The bit of snow melted and the mourning doves showed up at the feeder. They stayed for over half an hour pecking at seeds. Something was up.

Another skiff of snow didn't stop the Juncos (snowbirds)

And the snow melted and the squirrel came around for a snack.

With brilliant blue skies, it was hard to imagine another big storm was on its way.

And snow it began. The college where Himself teaches closed at 1 pm so he made it home before the storm really ramped up. Most schools had a half day.

Manny was like enough already. My reaction was the same as Ben Dover's. No No. No. No. No.

The snow was heavy and deep. The Juncos had to peck a hole in the snow on the bird feeder to get at the seeds. Heavy wet snow caused lots of damage around the state. Trees fell taking down power lines. Some areas were without power for a couple two or three days. We were very lucky and didn't lose power.  Trees collapsed on cars and a tree fell on one poor woman trying to clear snow from her driveway. She's going to be ok. One casualty was Ink's garden trellis collapsed under the weight of the snow.

The lamp post sports a bouffant hair-do and the mailbox survived another storm.

My house was in the jackpot area for snow. 15 inches (38 cm). I even measured the snow correctly this time around.

Temperatures above freezing during the day and then freezing at night have caused dragons's teeth on the gutters. I thought there would be an avalanche from the solar array on the back side of the house, but not yet.

The wind and snow took their toll on the planter and trellis. And someone needs to shovel a path to the back feeder. More snow may be on the way. I think I'll wait.

How does your garden grow?

  1. I'm sorry you have been hit by another storm, it seems to take no end. As pretty as the snow pics are, some sunshine and mild temps would surely be more appropriate. I'm hoping we don't get another load over here! Hugs, Valerie

  2. Wow!Every year it seems like Spring takes it's sweet time getting there.
Glad that woman is going to be okay..how scary!
We had rain today and no one knows how to drive when that happens in the desert, lol.
We seem to skip right over and get straight to infernal heat here, Winter only lasts about two weeks, it seems.
    Stay warm and safe!
    hugs!!

    1. Winter just lasts so long. Seems like 9 months. Spring here can be cold and wet. A lot like Winter though not as much snow. And we seem to skip the interim nice weather and go right to blazing hot. Personally, I don't mind.

  5. My garden grows dirt and dust and blowing leaves, but no moisture, aside from a drop or two last night. Enough to wet the pavement, but not enough to soak into the ground. I keep taking water out to the plants that are coming up.

What a mess you have. I feel for you, dear because the snow is really overwhelming this year everywhere except Wichita. I wish I could give you warm days, but we don't have them, either. I wish I could give you dry weather, but you would have to move here. SO glad you didn't lose power. That's always my concern when the weather turns bad.

  6. WHOAH NELLY! Was THAT the bad storm that came from PA? We dodged a bullet this time around (they are spouting about yet another one for Monday/tomorrow). Of course it depended upon the area you lived in, but we got about 4 inches is all.

    STAY SAFE!!!

    1. That storm merged with a storm that came up the coast from the Gulf and blew up into a Nor'easter. Basically, a Winter hurricane.
