T Stands For Tì

So it all started with a friend from Scotland who loves hedgehogs and has the nickname of Tiggy after Beatrix Potter's Mrs. Tiggywinkle. Tiggy and I have never met in person, but have been friends for a good 20 years

While shopping for items for the Eldest, I found some Hedgehog dryer buddies and impulsively bought them for Tiggy. At home, it occurred to me that I didn't know if she had a clothes dryer. I casually asked her on Facebook . She said yes, but asked why I wanted to know.

I replied.

Not long after Tiggy received the hedgehogs, she was remarking on Facebook how she had some delicious, licorice tea. I told her I love licorice,  but have never had or seen licorice tea. The only licorice flavor tea I've had was actually made with fennel.

And she said:

A couple of weeks later a package arrived all the way from Scotland. It was securely wrapped in lots of tape and had two pretty bird stickers stuck on. It seemed to be a large package for just some tea.

Inside was  an unbelievable surprise. Not only a package of Twining's Licorice Tea, but a package of honest to Gawd, real Jammie Dodgers. Doctor Who fans will recognize these cookies as the 11th. Doctor's favorite. There was a little matchbox filled with sweet teacup and tea cake stickers (my drink reference for today), and because Tiggy knows I'm a chocoholic, a bar of Mackies of Scotland chocolate with Honeycomb bits. It was so hard not to inhale the cookies or chocolate in one sitting, but I shared and savored the goodies over a week.

Ceud taing, mo caraidh.

  2. NICE!You got a great package. I've never had a jammy dodger but they sound yummy. And I know about those hedgehog dryer balls. I bought a couple for my daughter for her stocking at Christmas. Not sure about licorice tea. You'll have to let us know how that tastes. happy T day CJ. Hope tomorrow's storm is a bust compared to what these weather people keep talking about. I think we're both in the same snow range. UGH! Hugs=Erika

    1. Jammie Dodgers are a shortbread sandwich cookie filled with raspberry jam. The licorice tea is quite good. Tastes just like black licorice candy and needs no sweetener. Doesn't sound like the storm will blow out to sea. Maybe you'll get an early release day tomorrow and a snow day on Thurs.

  3. Online friends are so awesome aren't they? I have a dear friend in Scotland too since around 2005 when I met her on my yahoo blog. I love surprises from across the ocean-my friend surprised me with some of her handmade items that instead of tossing she sent them off to me-so fun!! Happy T day

    1. Tiggy was funny. She didn't want to use the drier buddies because she thought they looked cute in their nest. I had packed them in some shredded brown paper recycled from another package.

  9. Both of you seem to be on a mission to outdo each other with gifts from afar. What wonderful happy mail on both ends. LOVED the tea stickers, the tea, and the fun banter the two of you must have shared. This was a really fun post and I am delighted you shared it with us for T this Tuesday.

    1. The cookies are pretty with a small heart cut in the top so the raspberry jam peeks through. Very yummy, too.

  12. What a fun package! I love Twinings tea and didn't know they had licorice tea, but not sure that would be a favorite of mine. Enjoy!

    1. I love Twinings tea too, but have never seen licorice in the stores. It really was quite nice. But I suppose you need to like black licorice in order to think it's quite nice.

  13. What a treat for you both! I've had shortbread cookies with a bit of jam on the top center, but I googled Jammie Dodgers and they're nothing like any cookie I've had. It's fun to see things that are popular other places but not available here :) Happy T Tuesday

  14. What an awesome surprise! Not too crazy about the taste of black licorice for some reason.

It is always so wonderful to receive gifts from special friends!

    ENJOY!

    1. I think licorice is an acquired taste. I'm Italian so the taste of licorice is acquired at birth since a lot of Italian cookies and pastries are flavored with anise.

  15. What a fun post (love the Mickey Mouse thingy). Great that you have a long standing friend so far away. And what a delicious surprise! I love liquorice tea. I have that same Twinings packet in my cupboard (we buy it in the UK when we are over there). I love it. We also love Jammydodgers, typically British.
    Happy belated T-Day,
    Lisca

  16. Your stories always make me smile, CJ. I love the Mickey Mouse back and forth between you and Tiggy - "just you wait and see" - so clever. Your gifts to each other are wonderful. I love shortbread so probably would love those Jammie Dodgers.

Google thinks "Ceud taing, mo caraidh." means, "Thanks, my repair" - lol.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

    1. The tea is delightful. Just like black licorice. What really surprised me is it is naturally sweet so doesn't need sugar or sweetener of any kind.

    2. I have to see if we have it in Canada. We have a "Scottish" store close by. They might have it!
