How Does Your Garden Grow?

It's been awhile since I've taken pictures of the garden. Welcome to February

A nice picture of Papa Cardinal as he checks out the honeysuckle vine.

The Frost Guard (a Christmas gift from Himself to both of us) goes on the windshield in anticipation of another snow, sleet, frozen rain, rain storm. The Little Princess doesn't have to scrape ice or frost off the windshield anymore.

Friends from Europe posting pictures of snowdrops and daffodils in bloom have me jealous. The only things blooming in the garden are the ton of gravel tossed onto the lawn from the snowblower and shoveling.

The mailbox kept blowing down in the wind or by the slipstream of trucks as they whoosh by. I got tired of picking up the mailbox several times a day so took it down and put it in the garage. I notified the post office, I'd be picking up the mail from now until sometime in Spring when we decide how to replace the mailbox.

The February garden flags blows in the wind.

Heavy winds and rain have brought down lots of branches

The ground is so wet it can't support the shepherd's hooks.  Two of my garden kite still remain. The rest have gone with the wind.

Temperatures have been fluctuating. A few days above normal. A few days at norm. A bit of ice in a puddle as a cold front moves in.

A milky sky as clouds move in with another sloppy storm

And much to our surprise and delight, the pear solar light decided to glow.

Another storm averted. Just a half an inch of snow before turning over to rain.

How does your garden grow?

  1. January felt like March any days and we are back in the snow. 2 hour delay and then the cold. Time for spring! Hope you didn't get any snow. Hugs-Erika

    1. Just a dusting of snow and now it's raining. Slush from the walkway has washed away. At least you got a delay out of it. Hope your commute wasn't too bad.

  2. But inspite of it all you have a lovely 'welcome' sign and Your pear is glowing. Better times will come! It's warmish, wet and very windy here. Valerie

    1. If I lived where you live, I wouldn't miss it at all, either. 😺

  4. Your weather sounds like ours, only with rain. Some days are colder than average, but still just rain. I love Mr. Cardinal checking out his traditional nesting site. Sweet!

    1. Usually, the cardinal hides in the vine so I have a hard time taking a clear picture of him

  5. I enjoyed all of your photos-bummer with the mailbox-at our woods home the kids were always smashing our box or the plows running it over so we gave up and got a po box--I am loving a real mailbox again. I enjoyed seeing your cardinal-I need to replace the suet feeders to attract them in again.
    Happy Thursday Kathy

    1. It's really not the plows running over the mailbox, but the force of the snow that is being plowed. There was a lengthy discussion on our town FB page about this. The town DPW drivers were upset they were being blamed.

    1. The robins must go to you as I don't hear them or see them at this time of the year.

  7. And the little princess shouldn't have to scrape windows:)
I saw my first daffodils today!

  8. I enjoyed your lovely photos. I haven't seen a cardinal for over two years. You certainly encountered a good bit of damage over a few days. I was surprised your windshield wipers stayed in place. Had you been here, the gale force winds we have would have knocked them off, or bent them terribly. Snow here, too, but lucky me has a mailbox attached to my house. No worries that some snow plow is going to knock it over. I rue the day we no longer have a mail carrier who walks our route. Enjoyed the decoration on your front door.

    1. We always leave the windshield wipers in the up position during storms, heavy snows, winds, blizzard conditions. Haven't had any problems. Knock wood! 😺

  9. Papa is a cutie Pie, ohhh, so sweet.
    YES for practical gifts!
    Europe, haaa, we had hail.

Haha. We do have a garden. Well, the house - we´re a party of 14 (and we never party) - and no one takes care of it. And yes, me, neither.
We have a lille balcony, though. Sadly the only one so every storm/hail/heavy rain... BOOM, all gone.

I´ll wait till it´s really Spring and then... hmmm... no idea yet! I got herbs. And wildflowers. Radish. Salad.
Our balcony is tiny, btw ;-)

You must live in a nice area. Have the wipers up, likely they´re gone the next morning, too many morons. (Glad I don´t have a car anymore!!!!)

  12. been catching up and glad to read storm averted. We are still clearing away big branches and another "chipping" event will happen in March if we sign up for it - free chipping will be done house to house if you have stuff on the side of the road. Great for people like us who don't have a truck to haul away stuff.
