How Does Your Garden Grow?

It was a chilly, wet April with 18 days of rain and below normal temperatures.

13. April
On one of the few sunny days, one of the bunnies came out to nibble the new grass

18. April
It got cold enough to snow, but that didn't stop the birds from visiting the feeder.

19. April
The snow was gone by the following day and a turkey hen came to snack at the birdfeeder

28. April
 The daffodils were in bloom

and one tulip

The town highway department began filling in the ditch that runs down my side of the street with cobblestone. Perhaps for better drainage.

Some green leaves on the hydrangea

Buds on the snowball bushes

There were a couple of big storms with heavy winds and rain that knocked trees and branches and power lines down

The wind blew a smiley balloon into the yard to say hello and blew it away. Most likely a remnant from one of the Birthday Parades happening around town. Because we are still under a stay at home advisory, people can't celebrate birthdays in the traditional way with a party. The police department organizes a parade with a few squad cars with lights and sirens driving past the birthday person's home. The balloon must have come from the birthday parade for the little girl across the street.

The forsythia bushes up near the woods have started to bloom

The winds sent all of the garden kites accept the Pi Day kite on a whirlwind tour

A glorious sunset made the woods look like they were on fire.

2. May
Hard to see, but a bumblebee stopped by to enjoy the dandelions

and violets, and whatever those tiny purple flowers are, too.

6. May
With a few sunny days, the maple

and other trees in the woods have started to leaf.  The pollen counts have been through the roof.

    1. I think the birds have always been there, but with most of us inside and fewer cars, the birds have come out

  5. Nice series of photos. I didn't know wild turkeys ate birdseed, but it makes sense, since they're a bird. My Dogwood tree flowers are starting to open, but they look deformed. That happened a few years ago, when we had freezing rain, which damaged them. :-(

  7. Love hearing how your garden is growing CJ...Being much further South than you.. the forsythia and daffodils are long gone... The trees are all leafed out.. I've mowed my yard twice... the pines are coming to the end of their pollen dump... thank goodness.. the sycamores are a little behind schedule as they seem to be the last to leaf out.. or is that sweetgum.. i get them confused..lol No baby fawns yet.. that should be sometime this month.. 4 hummers fighting at the feeder.. A nice cool week this week.. probably the last for the Summer.. Hugs deb

  8. A turkey! I'm always impressed when I see animals like that in people's yards, as I don't see them unless I take a vacation to a state park :) We are ahead of you with what's blooming. Our daffodils are long gone. I have purple violets but no white. The white ones are pretty :)

    1. I live in a rural area so there are lots of animals out and about. Turkey, deer which I don't see often, but I've seen their footprints in the snow, coyote, coywolf, fisher cat, there was even a bobcat sighting on the west side of town.

There are some purple violets, but more of the white. i think they are both pretty.

  10. Your post was so nice to read, CJ! Our weather here in western Oregon had been all over the place, too, but now it is safe to dig in the dirt! Cooler weather crops are in; tomatoes are in pots for now. Happy days:)

    1. Himself planted some lettuce which has to be covered because of a freeze warning and snow this weekend 😱 Tomatoes and some other veggies he's started are in the sun room.
