When I was a kid, I was fascinated by the weather man, Don Kent, and his hand drawn isobars with the H and L for highs and lows on his sliding blackboards. No swanky computer graphics. I also loved playing with Miss Weather. a play set with a coated board of a little girl and plastic clothes and accessories to dress her in according to the weather.
For Mother's Day, Himself gave me a new weather station. I've had a few before but this one is in color and has a few features my other weather stations didn't have. Besides showing the weather outside, this one also shows the season. On the left, in the middle, there's a landscape scene with a tree. Right now, the tree is pink indicating Spring. At the Summer solstice it will change to green. At the Autumnal Equinox, it will be orange, and then just bare branches for Winter.
The other thing this weather station has that the others didn't is an anemometer, an instrument that measures wind speed.
Isn't that cool? Fun to watch the cups spin from the sun room and then watch the gauge change on the weather station. Also fun to watch the bird sometimes sit on the hub and ride around like a merry-go-round, when the wind barely registers.
Wow, this is cool. I just have an ancient one with no colours! Have fun! Valerie
ReplyDeleteI have an ancient one, too. 😺
Deleteyour weather station sounds awesome and Fun! Enjoy your new gift. I have never seen one
ReplyDeleteNow you have 😺
DeleteYes, very cool! That weather station provides so much fascinating information!
ReplyDeleteEspecially when the barometric pressure gets low as I get headaches so now I'll be able to anticipate when that will happen
DeleteLovely gift.
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteWe have one too! We call him Bob. As in, "What does Bob say the humidity is today?" ;)
ReplyDelete😺
DeleteThanks so much for showing your weather station CJ... I really like the old fashioned ones... You know the three dials up on the wall that tell you the weather.. 'stormy' etc.. I also like the one where either the witch or the children come out of the house depending on the weather oh and the bubbles that tell the temp.. lol But yours looks state of the art for sure! LOVE IT!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI have a Wetterhaus where the Herr comes out if it rains and the Frau comes out if it's sunny. I must not have calibrated it correctly because the Frau is always out. I'm guessing she doesn't like doing the housework! We used to have the Galileo thermometer, but I accidentally knocked it over while dusting. It broke and never replaced it.
Deletedon't think me weird; well, you can, because I guess I actually AM, but I always wanted to be a storm chaser
ReplyDeletewhen I was small, dad and I would see tornadoes in the sky that dissipated before touch down, and we would stand out on the porch and watch them travel, while everyone else was hiding in the basement !!
my grandmother used to say all the time; kid, you have nothing on this earth to fear but mom nature herself because she can wipe it all away in seconds
IE: I went to a friends house after the Palm Sunday tornadoes { they farmed and lived about 10 miles from me } a single piece of hay had embedded into the side of a massive oak tree that was outside their side door. Their house suffered minimal damage yet the one down the road was demolished; thankfully no lives were lost
sorry about the ramble ~~~~~~~ ♥♥♥
We don't usually get tornadoes here. When they do occur they are 😱 Amazing how one house can be obliterated and a house across the street not even touched. Mom Nature, indeed.
DeleteGood on the HH for getting you such a fun gift.
ReplyDeleteHe's good that way
Deletewow I would love this!! I'm a weather junkie also - especially extreme weather reports - i find them exciting ...until I don't. That is so cool what he got for you.
ReplyDeleteYou can find them at LaCrosse Technology. They have lots of models in all styles and budgets https://www.lacrossetechnology.com/products/weather/weather-stations
DeleteWhat an awesome thing to have! I'd like one.
ReplyDeleteWe have Goggle play (?) we call Evelyn. She gives me a pretty thorough update on weather, but I'd like yours better.
It's fun to watch especially the wind gauge
DeleteThat is a professional looking weather station. Oh and I remember Don Kent. Now that is a throwback. I bet you'll have fun with this new weather station and maybe I'll see you on channel 5 or 7 soon? Smile. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteNah, I couldn't make it as a weather person. I can't do the math required 😺 I did tweet back and forth with Pete Bouchard while he was chief meteorologist at Ch. 7
DeleteWhat fun! I don't think I know anyone as enthusiastic about changing weather conditions as you:)
ReplyDeleteI'm happiest when the weather is hazy, hot, and humid
DeleteWow, that's so cool! I'm loving the multi coloured screen too 😀. We have a weather station (not as posh as yours though ...lol), I love to check the temperature and forecast everyday too! Happy and creative wishes! Take care! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteI had a black and white one. I'm happy this is in color. I'm easily entertained
DeleteYou got a real beauty. I have the Galileo thermometer, but that's it. If I want to know what the weather's going to be, I watch the weather channel.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I saw what FSG wrote and I took storm chaser classes. They show the different types of tornadoes and what to watch for when one is forming. I've been in five in my lifetime, and I know what to look for now, but I won't be out there chasing them any time soon.
WOW!
DeleteThat's a nice gift …
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
