How Does Your Garden Grow?

Not much change in the garden this week so not many pictures. Did I hear a collective sigh of relief? 😺

Surprise, Blogger downloaded my images in order!

The weather station and I both wishful thinking. See the outdoor temperature upper right? A cool 43 oF? Notice to the left of the outdoor temperature in the upper right of the compass rose? The outdoor feels like temperature read 96 oF.  Don't I wish! The weather station was having issues with the feels like temperature. About five minutes earlier than this photo, the feels like temperature read 139 oF. but I didn't have the camera ready to snap it.

Somebody was too heavy and closed the hatch to the birdfeeder

A dusting of snow and this bird hung out in the feeder for a little while.

A new bird I haven't seen at the feeder before.

He/she/they wasn't/weren't shy and didn't fly off as I opened the slider and the screen door. The bird just turned and posed.

The bird is medium sized and chunky. At first I thought it might have been a female cardinal, but the cardinals are more slim.

Searching online for a brown bird with reddish back and a notched tail, it seems this bird might be a House Finch.

I also collected some seeds from Reggie's morning glories. They need to be shelled and stored until Spring.

How does your garden grow?

  1. I like the real temp better than the feels like temp. My friend Sally bought one of those feeders and it broke the first time a bird sat on it. AND, it was an expensive one, too. I tried to get her to take it back, but she just shrugged it off and ordered one online instead. It's great you can see the feeder up close, like that.

    1. That's too bad. This feeder was from my parents' house. A gift we bought them a gazillion years ago. The only thing that broke a few years ago was the perch. Himself had a piece of wood that fit so the birds would have a perch.

  2. Looks like 'someone' did a little damage to the squirrel baffle????? Do tell. ;)

    1. The squirrel baffle has been damaged for years. I think the squirrels got ticked off and chewed through it. It stops the squirrels, but not the chipmunks who figured they can get a purchase on the babble through the chewed edge.

    1. It's a good, heavy duty one. Has held up for decades

  5. I have that exact feeder. Works like a charm :) We get house finches here and purple finches, and I often can't tell the difference.

    1. I have no idea why a purple finch is called a purple finch. It has a red head and a brown body. Not a dot of purple on it at all! 😺

    2. It's not a bright red, though, more of an old-rose/raspberry-type red. But definitely not purple lol

  7. Everything is passe right now. We had some snow flurries today, but luckily just a few. We'll see what happens to this rain overnight. It's hard to believe it is already Thanksgiving week. Hope your week starts off well.

  9. House finches are always around here. The males are so much prettier with their colors - females are just brown.. looks like u had a male. So you had a bit of snow. That amount is what I like - just a dusting.

    1. Oh, thanks for identifying the bird. A dusting of snow is still too much snow.
