Saturday Morning at the Library

When I was 5 years old, I was forced to take dancing lessons while the Brother was forced to take accordion lessons. I hated dancing class. The Knights of Columbus Hall where the classes were given had no heat or it wasn't turned on. I hated wearing the pink beginner tights. I liked clacking around in the tap shoes, but Ma wouldn't let me practice inside the house on the wood floors. I spent most of my time in class being miserable and crying. Eventually, I was taken out of class.

While the Brother still had to endure accordion lessons, Dad took me to the library. He would leave me upstairs in the children's library where I could look at the books and choose to take some books home with my own library card. As I got older, I would go downstairs to the adult library and wander among the stacks enjoying the scent of the books before going to find Dad in the reference area consulting the law books and catching up on his work.

So for the next several weeks, a list of my favorite books, some I have read as a child, others as an adult and some  I have read more than once.

  1. I haven't read this book, but I did start the Crystal Cave this week. Mary Stewart is at her prime with that book. I can see why you included it. Thanks for sharing. And have a great Saturday-Happy early Mother's Day too in case I don't get by until tomorrow night.

  2. I'd rather watch a documentary (or docudrama, if you will) about English history and legend. If I try and read about it my eyes glaze over.....lol. ;)

    1. If you like King Arthur stories and the idea that someday he will return, you'll like this one.

  5. Interesting, but, ohhhh, I have way too many books already. Your library is open? Ours is still closed.

    1. The library is open for curbside pick up. You order your books, etc. online and the librarian has them bagged and ready on a table in front of the library. The library opens for in person browsing on Mon. 10. May

  6. I've heard of this series but somehow never read them. I should remedy that as soon as I feel comfortable at the library. Thanks for the reminder :)

I have faith he'll return but no faith our country will benefit ;)

    1. This is a stand-alone novel. Yeah, I don't think Arthur could help our country.

  7. I haven't read this book, but it looks good! Maybe you can take tap now? I took jazz, when I was younger. Big Hugs!

    1. We had tap lessons, too. I like clomping around in the shoes, but Ma didn't like me wearing them in the house on her wood floors.
