Boston is the capital of Massachusetts and the county seat for Suffolk county. Boston was founded in 1630. The city is laid out in spoke and wheel pattern..

"Boston is often referred to as "The Hub," which is short for "The Hub of the Solar System" and also "The Hub of the Universe." The original "Hub" is actually a physical place: the Massachusetts State House. Oliver Wendell Holmes coined the phrase in 1858." from Hub of the Universe origin

The statehouse was designed by architect, Charles Bullfinch in 1798. The original wooden dome was covered in copper by Paul Revere's copper company. The dome was gilded with gold leaf in 1874 and re-gilded in 1997.

I just love the old state house sitting in the middle of the taller buildings... Is it still there? Or does the new one stand in its place??

It's still there which is why we have the designation of the Old Statehouse and the New Statehouse. The Old Statehouse still stands at the original location. It's a history museum now and one of the stops on the 2 mile Freedom Trail. Under the balcony of the Old Statehouse is a cobblestone circle that marks the site of the Boston Massacre in 1770

They don't build them like that anymore
