At the beginning of the week, I was pleased to see the hydrangea survived the transplant, the Winter, and seemed to be tolerating the heatwave. I made a note to prune the dead branches as soon as the heatwave broke.
The Watcher
Gorgeous
sunset
The heatwave broke so I pruned the dead stuff from the hydrangea
The heat and no rain was taking its toll
I had to be careful where I pruned. The variety of hydrangea I have makes its growth off the old wood.
After pruning, I watered.
What a difference.
The petunia also thrived in the heat
The only morning glories that are doing well are the ones on the garden flag
Still watching.
How does your garden grow?
Love the watcher :-)
ReplyDeleteNo kidding: I dreamed a cat followed me and I took him home. Sadly was but a dream.
Soon! Pics of my sunflower, oh, it´s a slow one. Happy Sunday, hugs!
I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your sunflower. Timex and his friends ate the sunflower seeds I planted
DeleteShoot. Sorry for the eaten seeds! Might explain why I have but two despite I´m sure I planted a full sachet!
DeleteThe watcher photo made me smile. I've only had one hydrangea flower all summer, and my plant wilts too. We could use several days of rain, can't we? I hope you've gotten more than we have. Hopefully you are enjoying this weather. It is such a relief after the heat. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI heard it's supposed to rain Tues night and Wed. and maybe more rain on Thursday
DeleteI have to water my herbs at least twice a day in this heat. No rain in sight for seven days, they tell us. They being the weather folks.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's too bad. I hope the heat and the drought break for you soon.
DeleteForgot to mention (DUH). Love those sunsets and your watcher. What is it about cats and windows?
ReplyDeleteI think cats are the windows to the soul
DeleteMy knowledge of hydrangeas is that they can handle very cold Winters and that they like shade... Do you have yours in shade? Sorry to hear your morning glories are not doing well.. They are a finicky bunch.. You give them too much love and care and they won't bloom.. Neglecting them though doesn't guarantee anything.. I think you just need to find that sweet spot.. One time i planted them on the East side of the house..I'm thinking Morning Glory.. Morning sun... protection from the hot afternoon sun... I ran twine from the ground up to the top of my windows.. (2).. Thought they would cover the windows and give some shade.. nope.. they just limped along.. Since them i have found that it is not always best to clear away the old dead vines from the year before... let the new ones climb and cover the old vines.. in that way each year should get better with them.. You may have to reseed them each year but sometimes they will reseed themselves.. Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteThe hydrangea bush is in partial sun/shade. Shade in the morning, afternoon sun, late afternoon shade. The year before was the first year the morning glories reseeded themselves. They did that again this year, but not much luck. Maybe I'll give the leave the old vine there to see what happens next year.
DeleteAren't hydrangeas gorgeous?! I'm glad yours is doing so well. Mine is more faded than yours but still in bloom.
ReplyDeleteI love hydrangeas. I'm happy our soil is very acidic so the hydrangeas are always a deep blue. My hydrangea seems to be a late blooming variety. The Leaf Lady has a hydrangea and hers has already passed.
DeleteLookin' good! :)
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteGREAT pics! Gotta love "the watcher". lol
ReplyDeleteIsn't he cute?
DeleteYes, he is!!
DeleteI love the colours in your post. I could only grow pink hydrangeas - there is white one just below our kitchen window - blue is my favourite and I enjoy going to
ReplyDeleteStyall to get my fill of those! Hugs, Chrisx ps loved seeing 'the watcher'
As you can guess, blue is my favorite color. You can change the color of the hydrangeas. To get the blue color, the soil needs to be acidic. If you have oak leaves available in the Autumn, you can mulch around the hydrangea with the oak leaves. Hopefully, next season the hydrangeas will have blue blooms.
