The cod didn't make it to the official state list until 1974 even though it has been a symbol of Massachusetts for over 200 years. A sculpture of one hangs in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
Good to know. I love cod, as in fish and chips! Valerie

DeleteI can't believe it took that long for MA to make the cod the state fish. I remember seeing the statue in the state house as a kid. It's got so much history for this whole part of the planet-right up into the Maritimes. Hope you're enjoying your break. hugs-Eria
