2 Old Ladies on the Road
Our next stop was to Covered Bridge Lane.in the town of Sheffield, Massachusetts

The bridge spans the

and is only open to foot traffic. The bridge is a lattice and truss design and is 93 feet long. Before the bridge was destroyed by fire, it was the oldest covered bridge in Massachusetts.
Though the bridge was quaint. We were here to see the Thom Reed UFO Park On September 1,1969 Thom Reed and his family experienced a close encounter of the third kind. Around 200 or so residents also witnessed the craft.

In 1969 I was 14 years old, and I don't ever recall hearing about this event. Fourteen year old me steeped in the television series, Star Trek, would have been very interested.
On the other hand, at the time I lived 25 miles outside of Boston in the area now known as Metro-West. News only happened in Boston and surrounding areas. Anything in other parts of the state, especially the western part of the state, didn't register.
I wonder how easy it is to verify alien appearances? Fascinating.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's easy, but perhaps in this case, there were so many witnesses. There were lots of calls to the police about the lights/ship that night.
DeleteI wonder what the criteria is....I think I see something......(I'll probably be abducted now that I made that joke! LOL)
ReplyDeleteLucky you!
DeleteI don't remember the Tom Reed incident in the Worcester papers or anyone mentioning it. But maybe I was too young. But I have seen stories about the incident on TV. Nice covered bridge too. It looks like you had a gorgeous day too. And maybe you should say 2 mature ladies, not old. Grin. Stay warm. It is really chilly today.
ReplyDeleteWe had gorgeous weather that weekend. Sunny and warm
DeleteCute pic of you two. And wow, I never heard of the UFO-incident! How cool! As that bridge.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the best pictures we've taken together. Another favorite was called "I'm with Stupid."
