How Does Your Garden Grow?

Himself caught Timex scaling the mesh fencing to steal the cherry tomatoes.

The Monarch caterpillar enjoying the milkweeds

A flock of birds started visiting in the afternoons

Not sure what species they are. They aren't the grackles which usually show up in the Fall.

Corolla, the bunny who usually hangs out front and hides under the cars, ventured out back. Came right up to the door to say "Hello".

Sunset and the light was so beautiful

Concordia and Big Lily

The Monarch caterpillar is gone. Looks like s/he was enjoying the milkweed.

Rainfall for the week minus one inch. Someone didn't empty the rain gauge.

A snowdrift of Heath asters

Broken stems. Looks like some critter stopped to take a rest

Morning glory seed pods. When they are brown and hard, they can be harvested for next year.

Corolla running under the car when I went out to fill the bird feeder out front.

Corolla came back out and let me take a picture when I was going back in.

  2. I always enjoy seeing pics of your garden and your critters. We do not have a garden. But we do have plenty of wild fur friends ... bunnies are fewer though since we seem to have plenty of cats running around from who-knows-where?

    HAVE A GOOD DAY!

    1. I haven't seen any stray animals in the area. We do have coyotes. We can hear them howling at night. The bunnies must know how to avoid the coyotes.

  3. Bad, Chipmunk. Bad.
    Corella is so cute.
Love your garden. And apparently so do the critters:)
I get a kick out of Big Lil, as you know:)
So far we are good here. We made it through another day. Lots of rain, but nothing compared to the coast. Thanks for your concern.

  4. I'm thinking those birds must be some kind of grosbeak. But I can't enlarge the photo enough to get a good look. And those chipmunks in the gardens. They waste so many tomatoes. Of course, they can only take one bite. Hope you enjoy this gorgeous bonus summer day. Hugs-Erika

    1. Timex made short work of the little cherry tomatoes. He took every single one. Even the green one!Hope the weather stays like this for the rest of the week. (Actually would home for the rest of the year, but I know that won't happen)

  5. Timex looks like he is enjoying your cherry tomatoes ...lol 😉. Such great photos and so many furry and feathered visitors too, it makes me smile to see them all! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! J 😊 x

  6. Your sunset photo is gorgeous! I'm trying to encourage the chipmunks to easy eating and away from the expensive food I've bought to attract specific birds. Chipmunks are persistent, though, and will not be denied the treats they've set their hearts on. I need to water today. Rain's been scarce here.

    1. I read you can try mixing some cayenne pepper in your birdseed. The chipmunks don't like spicy and it doesn't harm the birds. I haven't found any article that says how much pepper to birdseed.

    2. I've seen suet cakes and seed cakes with cayenne embedded in it. I'll have to research some to see if I can treat my loose seed myself. Thx!

    3. I tried sprinkling Ground Red Pepper (all I had in the spice rack) on the seed ledge of the feeder. It didn't even slow Timex down!

    1. I haven't seen those birds before. They only stopped by a couple of days. I haven't seen them since.

  8. Your garden is a LOT more lively and filled with both critters and color than mine. I'm in awe of all the wildlife you have there. Hope you don't get a lot of rain this week.

    1. It helps to live in a rural area so there are lots of critters. Besides birds and bunnies, turkeys, Red Tail Hawks, coyotes, deer, a bear sighting or two, a cougar, foxes, skunks, squirrels red and gray, and someone in town spotted a white squirrel!
