Nasturtiums are an edible flower. With all the nasturtiums Himself planted, he decided to pick some and add the flowers and leaves to a salad.
It's said the flowers taste a little peppery with a sweet flavor. The leaves are also peppery with a citrusy flavor. I'm not a fan of black pepper so I was glad I didn't pick up on that taste. To me the flowers and leaves were bland. No pepper. No citrus notes.
I forgot to take a picture of my iced tea. Here's a picture with lots of rocks.

I had edible flowers once, too. More for the eyes than the tastebuds ;-) Either way happy (hot?) T-Day!
ReplyDeleteYeah, a bit like herbal tea. Smells pretty, but not much taste. Ditto the nasturtiums
DeleteI've never had them... but sure look beautiful in a salad! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI think they are prettier in the garden
DeleteThe seeds can be pickled - then they're known as 'poor man's capers' and are quite a good substitute.
ReplyDeleteCapers. Rat 💩🎃
DeleteAt least they didn’t make you sneeze! Marigolds are supposed to be edible but they can be problematic!
ReplyDeleteGood to know!
DeleteNothing tastes the same to me anymore....even ice cream......sigh....
ReplyDeleteThings will get better once Milton passes.
DeleteI didn't know nasturtiums were edible. But you say they don't have much taste, oh well, it will look pretty on the salad.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day,
Lisca
I didn't think they had much taste.
DeleteMy Mum used to add Nasturtium leaves and flowers to our salads way back in the 1960s and they definitely had a peppery taste then! She also used to add Dandelion leaves! Happy T Day, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteItalians have dandelion salads, but only with the first dandelions in Spring
DeleteI've never tried eating these flowers, I'd happily give them a try as your salad looks yummy 😊. Great ice tea on the rocks too. Sending you Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteI didn't think the flowers had much taste, but they made the salad look pretty
DeleteI've had nasturtiums in salad before. I thought they were peppery. But they look so pretty in your salad. And I like your ice tea drawing too. Hope it was a happy T day. It was chilly but still a lovely autumn day.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't too chilly here this afternoon. I went out to plant some seeds before tomorrow's potential frost
DeleteGood on himself for adding the nasturtiums. Excellent idea.
