Opera

There have been issues with Blogger while tryin to compose a blog post or leaving comments while working on the iPad. Safari just wouldn’t play nice.

Chrome on the iPad worked for me for a bit. Then Apple did an update, and no more being able to leave comments. Even though on the post page I was clearly logged in with my Google ID. What to do?

Hunting around, I found the answer to be Opera, a browser that works across platforms. This browser worked well. I was able to leave comments on other blogs while using the iPad. I even started this post on the iPad using Opera. Oh, joy! Oh, rapture!

Then Apple did another update. WTH? I was clearly logged in with my Google ID, but when I tried to leave a comment I could see Blogger thought I wasn't logged in. Trying to log in from someone's blog just put me in an endless loop of being logged in from Blogger, but not logged in while reading blogs. Deep sigh. Forlorn look.

So more time wasted to hunt for another solution.

  1. You really wonder, when everything works, why they don't just leave well enough alone.

    1. That would should be the second rule of programming. The first rule being turn it off and turn it back on.

  2. I use Opera too, it's a fabulous platform 😀. Glad you found a solution, it seems so many people are having problems with Blogger and Google these days. Happy wishes! Hugs, Jo x

    1. Commenting on Opera looked like it was going to be a problem after the Apple update. This comment is a test to see if I ignore the fact that it looks as if I’m not logged in, I can still leave a comment.

  3. I hate when these sorts of things happen. Awhile ago, when trying to leave T-Day comments, sometimes blogger thought I was logged in, but on other pages, it did not. And I had opened ALL of the T-Day posts in tabs withing the same browser. I've heard of Opera. I might install that as another "backup" browser. I have Firefox, Chrome, and whatever Microsoft includes with Windows 10. I hope you're able to solve this problem without wasting too much more time on it. That's the additional frustrating part: one has to waste one's own time, trying to solve a problem that should not be there in the first place. Ugh.

    1. I did solve it. I just ignored the fact that it looked like I wasn't logged on when commenting. Made my comment and it posted. I'll explain better tomorrow as one of the Friday Five

  4. I find blogger tricky from my Mac or phone. I don't get why it would let you comment from Safari. I've struggled with that too. I've never tried opera though. I need to check that out. Thanks.

    1. I don't think it matters what browser you use. I'll have a better explanation tomorrow on the Fri. Five with pictures!

  6. The reason Mac's don't get viruses the way PCs do is because of the constant updates. They can be annoying, but you can opt out of them and switch to manual. This will prevent your device from changing something overnight but it will leave you at risk, which many think is minimal.

    1. But then the overthink. What happens if there's a critical update and you've opted out? 😺

    1. The image, the recently issued Bugs Bunny stamps. With my favorite of him as Brunhilda in "What's Opera, Doc?"

  8. I would be so frustrated by the end of all that. I've had issues here and there with blogger but nothing like you described. Opera - sounds good

    1. I haven’t downloaded Firefox to the iPad. As of now, I don’t think I have to. Leaving this comment using Chrome

  10. It's the pits. I can't leave comments with Microsoft Edge. I'll keep Opera in mind. I hope. My mind tends to pick and choose what it remembers these days:)

  11. I got rid of Windows and would LOVE to get rid of Blogger. I'm a Firefox gal. It's my browser of choice. I've not had any problems with it, BUT I only have a home computer, not a tablet, cell phone, or iANYTHING. I'm glad to read you found a cure or a work-around for this problem, CJ.

  12. I alternate between a laptop, a desktop, and an iPad, all apple computers. The iPad has more problems than the computers, but they all seem to be working pretty well by now. I hope I don't wake up to a new and inconvenient update.

  13. Oh, boy I feel old! I sit at a desktop PC with two hue monitors and have it all easy.
Maybe I brave up and try with my old HUAWEI, just to check.
Wonder why blogger did that anyways.

    1. You're old? When I was a computer programmer when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I wrote code using IBM cards. I thought paper tape was the wave of the future! 😺

I'm not sure the problem is totally Blogger/Google other than they don't play nicely with Microsoft or Apple and vice versa.
