T Stands for St. Patrick's Day

Dad's birthday was on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. He always joked he was more Irish than the Irish. As long as I can remember, we always had a birthday bash for Dad. Sometimes small, with immediate family and sometimes, large with extended family.

Festive St. Patrick's Day insulated hot and cold drink cups. Since Himself and I don't drink coffee, Ma bought a small coffee pot like she had at home so when she came here, she could make coffee. I've been told I make horrible coffee.  The little coffee pot perked its last many years ago so when The Brother visits, he would stop at the Dunkin' Donuts down the road apiece and get a Box of Joe (An insulated, cardboard jug of coffee that serves 10. )

In the photograph, The Eldest, 6 years old, and 2 year old, Young One help Grandpa blow out his birthday candles on his 75th birthday. We celebrated that birthday on Sunday, March 13, 1994.

This year, Grandpa would have celebrated his 99th birthday. Buon Compleanno, Dad!

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

  1. Looks like a lovely birthday party. I have antecedents from many countries, but Irish is not among them! But I'm shocked that you can't make good coffee!;) Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  3. How fun! I guess the 17th is a good day to celebrate-whether you are Irish or not. And it is good remember him too. My dad was an addicted coffee drinker too and neither myself nor my husband drink it either. My other bought me a coffeepot to have when they came to visit us, and she had me trained (as well as my brother) to cook the coffee as she called it. I remember being a kid and getting up and first thing I did was make the coffee for them-they had an electric pot. I don't think they were very fussy as long as it had a little coffee taste. I enjoyed your post today, not only about your dad but the memories of mine it brought to me. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

    1. Now I have one of those Keurig machines. It was The Eldest's as she loves coffee (well, all the foo-foo flavors). The machine wouldn't fit in her little car so she bought a smaller Keurig when she arrived in PA. So now when people come, I'll pick up a selection of coffees. And now I can make the perfect cup.

  6. What fond memories! That's a fun day to have a birthday, with built-in festive ideas :) We drink coffee and have my mother's percolator. Coffee tastes different depending on how it brewed/dripped/perked/etc. Happy T Tuesday!

    1. Our festive ideas for Dad's birthday were Irish/St. Patrick themed decorations and Italian food! Especially if my Auntie came to the party. She always brought Dad an Italian rum cake.

    1. Himself doesn't care for hot beverages. Once in a while after shoveling he may have a hot chocolate. If we're at a restaurant, his drink of choice is a Coke. Yup, breakfast of champions

  9. I'm not Irish, but I also celebrate St. Patrick's Day. It looks like a festive event with the shamrock mugs and birthday cake.

I read you inherited a Keurig. My friend Sally gave me her big one because she never drinks that much coffee. I gave it to the Goodwill, because I refuse to buy those pods that cost an arm and a leg. Also, it has a three prong, which doesn't fit where my regular coffee maker goes. However, if I ever come to visit you, I will pick up my own French Roast coffee pods and a quart of 1/2 and 1/2! You can supply the coffee maker.

Thanks for sharing your father's 75th birthday, and thanks for sharing this wonderful view of a St. Patrick's Day fun time with us for T this Tuesday.

    1. Don't worry about picking up the 1/2 and 1/2. I buy it by the 1/2 gallon and use it in my tea.

Hope the snow melts soon at your end of the world! We didn't get any until now - just rain - I hope they failed with the anticipated winter come back here.

  15. Oh a bit of nostalgia. Thank you for sharing that lovely photo of your dad's 75th birthday.
We are not great coffee drinkers but drink one cup a day. Would you believe we have one coffee machine each. I find his machine too strong (He has a grind and brew set-up) I have a Senseo (Dutch invention, but now popular all over Europe) I uses coffee pads (like a tea bag but with coffee in it). The fore runner of the pod I guess. Pods are very expensive here and the pads I use in my machine are a lot cheaper and also come in flavours. I'll be going to Holland next week and I will be stocking up the flavours I can't buy in this country.
    Happy (belated) T-Day,
    Lisca

  20. What a sweet story about your dad, CJ. My brother Patrick's birthday is St. Patrick's Day too.

Neither my hubby nor I can make good coffee either. It's quite a challenge when company comes. Sometimes we get a guest to do the honors. Other times our guests get coffee with grounds in it - lol.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
