T Stands for Longfellow's Wayside Inn

We attended a funeral for a friend. After the services, we decided we'd have a late lunch or early dinner. Since we were all dressed up and close by, I suggested we have lunch at

Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts along the Boston Post Road (US Rte. 20)

The inn is the oldest, continuously operating inn in the United States and was made famous by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow who took inspiration from the inn and countryside and wrote a series of poems. You can read about the Inn's history here.

Since we arrived after 3 pm, we were too late for lunch (served until 2 pm) and too early for dinner (served at 5 pm). We were invited to eat outside on the Patio.

I had an Arnold Palmer (named after famed golf legend. The drink is half lemonade and half ice tea.) Himself had a Coke.

On the way to the Ladies', I snapped a picture of one of the private dining rooms all set for the evening.

We had Red Pepper Humus with Pita Chips for an appetizer

Himself had a cheeseburger as he didn't want to have

Lobster Roll (again!) It was delicious. 

We were a little disappointed that there was too long a wait for dinner as it seemed a waste to be all dressed up to have a hamburger.

However, activities going on made up for that (at least for me). 

There was a Minuteman (reenactor), a civilian colonist who was part of the militia. Through the magic of PSP, I covered his face with the old Patriots football team logo, Pat the Patriot. 

A bagpiper in full regalia also passed by us, but I couldn't get a picture of him.

What was going on?

A wedding!

We saw the groom and his groomsmen being driven away in a red Lincoln Continental convertible.

A flower girl was twirling in her floor length, white tulle gown.

The bride and her father were driven to the service on the grounds in a horse drawn carriage. I heard the driver call, "Walk on, Molly." I assumed he was speaking to the horse and not the bride, her mother, and other members of the bridal party. They were getting a lift in the white limo.

The reception was going to be held in the Wedding Tent

The Inn's white hydrangeas don't seem to be suffering the same lack of blooms as blue hydrangeas.

The wedding service was taking place at The Martha Mary Chapel. We did hear bagpipe music

 If you enlarge the photo, you might be able to see a knot of people on the left of the chapel. That was a group of 4 Minutemen. I bet after the I Dos after the couple rings the chapel bell, the Minutemen will fire a volley and shout Huzzah! Or maybe the Father of the Bride hired them to threaten the Groom. Don't you dare make my Little Princess unhappy! 

After the ceremony, the bridal party will have photographs taken at the Grist Mill Best wishes to the Happy Couple.
