Once again, I'm trying to drop a few pounds. Baking during Massachusetts' Stay at Home Advisory during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic was too tasty.
This recipe for a Carrot Cake Breakfast Shake comes from a 12 Week Metabolic Meal Plan.
Ingredients for One Serving:
1 serving protein powder or vanilla powdered shake mix
1 carrot, chopped (I used a handful of baby carrots)
1/4 skin on apple (I can't stand recipes that use only a small portion of a fruit or veg. What do you do with the other 3/4 because apples aren't low carb? So I used 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce)
1/2 cup of unsweetened, non-dairy milk. (I used unsweetened coconut milk)
4 ice cubes
1 T. chia seeds
1 T. orange zest (I used Orange Peel from the spice cabinet)
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Optional: 1 T. chopped walnuts
1 T. unsweetened coconut flakes
Put all ingredients in a blender and blend. Use a little water to adjust the thickness if necessary.
Enjoy!
Good morning-sounds good I agree with you that would be a waste of the apple, I don't like recipes that only use the whites or the yolks either. carrots have sugar and carbs so surprised that was included (I only know that because Hubs is diabetic) Happy T Kathy
ReplyDeleteIt’s a small amount of sugar/carbs and if you cut out the carbs for the rest of the day, no problem
DeleteThis sounds really good. Happy T Day / Shake day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteA way to have your cake and drink it too when you’re watching your weight.
DeleteWow, this looks so delicious! I love carrot cake so this is perfect 😁. Happy T Tuesday! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteAll it needed was the cream cheese frosting 😺
DeleteSounds delicious. I will have to try it, while I still want to drink something cold!😘
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to get back up into the 80s on Friday 😺
DeleteThat does sound very good. At first I was like, what? But no, I would drink that. I have hit the fall baking time. Spices and apples and nuts...Trying to keep walking as my thyroid went off and I gained a couple of pounds myself. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Happy T day and happy autumn. Hope you can be happy and don't have tears in your eyes that summer is over. At least it is NOT winter yet.
ReplyDeleteNo worries. I have the Solstice Countdown going only 271 days until the First Day of Summer
DeleteThanks! Sounds yummy! :D
ReplyDeleteOoooh! That breakfast shake does sounds delicious!! I must try this one. Thank you for sharing the recipe, CJ!
ReplyDeletehmmm... I'll skip the shake ;) I've always found skipping a meal entirely preferable to drinking it. I'm not sure why that is... Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteWould make a good snack, too. 😉
DeleteYum ~ Sounds good! I like the applesauce alternative, and cinnamon and nutmeg make it smell and taste like Fall ~ Enjoy the week!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be good any time of the year
DeleteYum sounds very good to me. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteYum

DeleteThis looks like a great recipe. I am going to have to give this shake a try.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
I think you'll like it
DeleteSounds yummy. And much better as what I had. Doner and I bought an Eierkranz yesterday. Huhhh. Happy T-day, belated, as yesterday was Brother/Nieces-day!
ReplyDeleteBut, the Eierkranz looked very yummy
DeleteWOW! This looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteAnd I absolutely love carrot cake!
This is carrot cake in a glass. 😺
Deletelooks so good. I love anything with carrot in it but I hate eating carrots as a vegetable.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good way to get that vitamin A without too much of the crunch
DeleteSound like a good start to the day, good luck with the weight loss! Belated happy T day, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteThanx 😊
DeleteLooks tasty!
ReplyDeleteIt is 😋
DeleteThe applesauce was a clever substitution. You didn't mention if it was tasty. Shakes (except chocolate malted milk - lol) don't appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
I’ll have to see if there’s a way to make a chocolate malted shake
DeleteThough it’s a quick breakfast, it’s also good for an afternoon snack
DeleteI left a comment but it isn't here. Just delete this if it's a duplicate. Your shake sounds very healthy. You made some clever substitutions, especially the applesauce. Did it taste good?
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
The comment didn’t appear because I was out with Himself running errands and then cleaning out a shed so wasn’t approving comments quickly. As to delete it? No, extra comments make the stats look better. 😺 Yes, it tastes very good like carrot cake. The applesauce helps with making the shake thicker. I like a thick shake. You can use extra water or non-dairy milk to adjust the thickness.
DeleteOh, my goodness! You had me at carrot cake! LOL I had a frozen banana, blueberry yogurt smoothie for breakfast today after my 3 mile walk. It was exactly what I wanted. But oh, yum on yours! Happy belated Tea Day!
ReplyDeleteThe Carrot Cake shake is a nice change of pace. I usually have a mixed berry shake in the morning
DeleteWell I like a piece of low carb carrot cake :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good - did you enjoy it?
All the best Jan
I did. It was a nice change of pace from the usual berry shake I have
DeleteLooks so yummy! Thanks CJ!
