Over the weekend, Godzilla gave me a hand while I crocheted and sewed buttons for ear savers little pieces of cloth you wear behind your head and hook the elastic of your face mask to so your Little Princess ears won't be chafed by the ear loops of the mask.
Since the Eldest has to wear a mask for her shift in the hospital lab, I asked if she wanted a one. She said "I mean, the masks don't bother my ears, but that thing does look cool! Can I get one in pink?" I had two shades of pink yarn so she got two ear savers. You can't make something for one kid and not make one for the other so the Young One got hers in her favorite color, red.
Another First World problem I was having was my glasses fogging up while wearing a mask. On Etsy, I found plastic nose clips from MonsteRawrmakes. See that black, plastic bridge looking thing to the left of the Ink with poppies mask in the center of the picture? You weave your mask around the clip at the center. It pulls the mask taut with little to no gap around your nose so no fogging up your glasses.
I figure as long as I have to wear a mask, I might as well be as comfortable as I can. Imma gonna look good, too.

Fun idea! My elephant ears don't get chafed, though. Glasses getting fogged up is no fun, though, hope your solution helps! Happy T day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteIt seems to work for the time being
DeleteHalle and I were talking about that very subject after she sent me a mask she made me for my birthday. She said a lot of people have trouble because the elastic hurts their ears. I've not had that problem because the mask she made was apparently for women (and maybe men) who have bigger heads than mine. I can barely feel the elastic in mine. However, when I took my driver's license test, I had to put my glasses on. They immediately fogged over and I thought it was because I had them in my pocket and the temp inside was cooler, which caused the fogging. Once I cleaned them, they were fine. I don't think I'd ever get used to wearing them all the time when I'm out and about. My friend Joseph in CA wears goggles he bought in January to wear over his mask. He said they protect his eyes from getting the virus. I think you have found some unique and unusual ways to look stylish while staying Covid free. And I'm glad Godzilla helped, too, along with your tea. Thanks for sharing these nose clips and ear protectors, as well as your tea with us for T this Tuesday, dear CJ.
ReplyDeleteThose look like good solutions to the problem we are all having. We made our cloth masks with elastic straps that go all the way around the back of the head and don't bother the ears or the glasses' earpieces or the hearing aids. This was an option in the mask pattern.
ReplyDeleteWe also bought bendable metal nose clips (for want of a better description) that go on the bridge of the nose and keep the mask from gaping and fogging glasses.

Your mask solution sounds like a good one.
DeleteAwesome ideas for a more comfy mask! I didn't enjoy making these masks at all, maybe it was the pattern I used, I had made four of them and was not crazy with the outcome so I found a company in Texas that makes cotton shirts and they used the scraps to make the masks expensive but they are very comfortable-they used something stretchy for the ears but wasn't elastic-and I liked that they made a pocket inside to insert a filter that were included and you change those out every 8 hours. Happy T CJ
ReplyDeleteSome of the masks above have the pocket for a filter.
DeleteGreat idea, and nice colors. That's a clever trick with the nose guard, to prevent one's glasses from fogging up, which is annoying. I love your snowman mug. Happy T-Day!
ReplyDeleteI thought the nose guard was clever and it works. Done on a 3D printer.
DeleteOh, and the snowman mug was clean. Just like the Mad Hatter's tea party. Clean cup! Clean cup! Move on down! 😺
DeleteVery clever! I have tried everything to keep my glasses from fogging and nothing seems to work.....except holding my breath, which doesn't seem like a permanent solution for some reason.....lol. ;)
ReplyDeleteI had tried putting some wire in the masks, but that didn't work. These clips work surprisingly well.
DeleteGreat idea.
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteGreat ideas, CJ. The masks are really bothersome and uncomfortable. I don't have Princess ears, but I could use n of those nose clips to keep my glasses from fogging.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen
I've been trying not to whine about wearing a mask for a short time since the Eldest is wearing hers for 8+ hours at the hospital lab where she works. The clips work surprisingly well. And I just found the link I had pasted in didn't work so corrected the link for the etsy shop. https://www.etsy.com/shop/MonsteRawrMakes
DeleteThanks for the correct link.
DeleteVery clever solution!
ReplyDeleteI thought so when I found them.
DeleteGreat way to save your ears! This is a fab idea and I love the different colours and buttons that you used 😁. Loving your kitty mask too! Wishing you a very Happy T Tuesday! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteThe button came from Ma's button box so was fun sorting through it to find buttons to use
DeleteCJ; great job on the masks accessories !!! and oh em cod; does your godzilla roar ? I've got the one that if you click his "hand" he lets out a "roar"...cool stuff !! :) ☺☺♥♥
ReplyDeleteNo, he doesn’t roar. He’s fully articulated and also has a heat ray that fits in his mouth
DeleteI have faith that someday they'll make masks that are big enough, comfortable, and that don't fog glasses. I'm thinking we'll be wearing masks forever, but what's taking the perfect mask so long to be made available? Happy T Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteI think a perfect mask would be a plague doctor’s mask
DeleteOh there's an Ink mask:)
ReplyDelete😺 what else would I have.
DeleteInteresting little crochet bit. I haven't seen anything like these. And fun masks too. I have a little collection myself, now that they have become a part of everyday going out wear. Hope it was a happy T day. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI saw the ear savers as sewn, but I don’t sew. I can crochet and they work
DeleteGreat idea! I am definitely not of fan of sore ears or foggy glasses. I am looking forward to when this craziness is over.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
Amen. From your fingers to Gawd’s eyes
DeleteThese ear savers are great and they coordinate so well with the masks! And I like the plastic nose clips for the mask to prevent the glasses from fogging up.
ReplyDeleteThe plastic nose clips were a great find
DeleteI've not had a problem with sore ears, but it looks like a fun idea. Yes, the nose things really do prevent your glasses from misting up. I have them in my masks (the shop bought variety). When I throw my mask away I can retrieve the metal nose piece and sew that in my hand made ones.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated T-Day (Yes, I'm late again as per usual. Tuesday is just a very busy day and I spend the whole of Wednesday catching up)
Lisca
I'm surprised how well the nose clip works
Deleteclever idea for the ears. I pretty much stay away from anywhere I have to wear a mask. I give Mike the list for groceries and stay in the car or walk by the lake while he's inside. I get too claustrophobic. i don't know how health care workers do it.
ReplyDeleteHealthcare workers are a special breed
DeleteSo far no chafing for us but hubby specs are forever steaming up! Thanks for the link although suspect postage may put him off. We'll have a look for a UK manufacturers though! Belated Happy T Day, Chris
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas.
ReplyDeleteHappy September Wishes.
All the best Jan
oh i remember now, yes.
