Happy Mail

I got a postcard, all the way from Switzerland. And not from just anywhere in Switzerland, but from Our Chalet.  Our Chalet is one of the five World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Centers for Guides/Scout and their families to stay.

My friend, M, from Coloring Camp (aka Enders Island) finally got to go on a trip to Europe with the Girl Scouts of America. The trip was postponed twice due to Covid. M has been a Girl Scout for 60+ years.

When she told me about her trip, I told her I wanted a postcard from Our Chalet. When I was a Girl Scout, this was one of the places I wanted to visit, but the opportunity never presented itself. I was fortunate to live vicariously through M's trip as she shared pics on social media.

Thanks, M!

  1. Cool postcard. I didn't know someone could be a girl scout for that long. I'm glad your friend finally made it there on a visit. Enjoy the sun.

    1. I didn't know that either. I was a Junior for one year, a Cadet for 3 years, and a Senior Scout for 3 years. I also did an Explorer year with the Boy Scouts. I didn't know adults could remain scouts.

  3. I never 'joined' the Brownies/Girlscouts.....I just tagged along with my friend when they did interesting things. They eventually banned me when it became apparent I wasn't going to join.....lol.

    1. Yeah, because the dues that were collected and fund raisers went towards funds for the troop to do stuff 😺

  4. Lovely postcard. I loved being in the guides, and was later a scout leader for the cubs, that was fun! Valerie

    1. When my girlies were in Scouts, I helped out at meetings, but was never an official scout leader

  5. I was both a Brownie, then a girl scout, but I thought there was an age limit. So glad you got to live vicariously through M and her trip. That is TRULY happy mail.

  6. Nice read - would love to visit there. My oldest granddaughter (16) gets to go to Geneva on some kind of study or work with the WHO.. My son and family will drop her off and then he will work from their hotel while they stay in Europe for about a month. yeah I'm envious you might say.

    1. Do they need someone to carry their luggage? I can swear in 5 languages, 6 if you count Klingon 😺
