Fun Facts About the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
In 1974, a group of second graders from the town of Franklin campaigned to have the Ladybug adopted as the state insect. Ladybugs (aka Ladybirds, Ladyfly, Lady Beetles) are beneficial insects eating harmful insects and larvae.
Ladybugs are great for gardeners! Our next door neighbor used to get them from a mail order company and release them into her garden to help with the 'bad bugs'. Our garden never looked better! ;)
That's a good pick. You can't confuse them with the Asian ladybug though that is invasive. They are the ones you see around windows in the fall (my classroom at school used to be loaded with them), and they have a white M on their head which ladybugs don't have. Happy Saturday.
One year I bought a container of 50 ladybugs. They sure kept my garden clear of lots of harmful bugs. I still have no idea what happened to them. I fear the cold killed them off. This was a great idea by those children.
