T Stands For Beyond Burger

For the last teaching assistant's lunch, Himself chose the Nu Kitchen in Worcester. The restaurant has a large selection of vegetarian and vegan fare as one of the TAs is vegan. Though there are tables in the restaurant, it's more like a healthy, clean eating fast food, and it's quite popular. We got the very last table.

I ordered a Beyond Burger which is a plant-based "burger". It was paired with grilled pineapple, lettuce, a special sauce, (and pickled red onion which I chose to skip) on delicious ciabatta bread. The sandwich came with a choice of kettle chips or a spicy cucumber salad. Since there were no tables when we first got there and we were going to get the food to go and then take the food back to the school, I thought the salad might be cumbersome to deal with. I ordered the chips and then a table opened up. I also had an unsweetened iced tea.

I liked the meaty flavor of the "burger" paired with the pineapple. The burger was good, but didn't have quite the same juicy, burger texture as a traditional hamburger. Since it was "fast-food" lunch, there were no leftovers. So the poor, Little Princess had to cook dinner.

Have you ever had plant-based meat?

Drop by hosts, Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to find out what the rest of the T Stands For gang is up to. If you want to play, include in your Tuesday post a beverage or container for a beverage. Don't forget to link your blog to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's page.

  1. Looks and sounds very yummy!
Yes, I once tried a beetroot-burger. Bleh. Not again. Maybe it´s the brain?
Like when FIL served tongue - was yummy but my brain... huhhh....
I like tofu, though and grilled cheese (of course) - Happy T-Day!

  2. I had a beyond burger type of meat once in some vegan tacos. It worked in tacos quite well. I like the idea of the pineapple on the burger a lot though. Even with real burger I bet it tasted yummy. Happy T day CJ.

  6. No, I can not say that I ever had one, but since I am not a huge veggie fan and I hate the taste of pineapple, I doubt I ever will. I would rather cook! lol,

Have a great day, CJ! :-)

  7. Yes, I've had lots of plant-based meats. Some are better than others, some are truly appalling lol. I don't eat real meat any more but I still remember what it's supposed to be like. I think sometimes the people inventing the fake meat, forget what the real thing is supposed to be like. Same goes for fake cheese. Most of the time I don't bother with it. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx

  8. I've never had plant based meat, and I don't intend to. For me it's meat or no meat - but mostly no meat - Happy T Day, Valerie

  9. I used the new synthetic burgers (including Impossible and Beyond) for a while and then got tired of them. Beyond burgers smell bad when raw. I would rather eat vegetables that are not disguised as something else. Your reaction is interesting.

    1. I just thought I'd give it a try. As I said, it wasn't bad, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to order it again.

  12. Sorry I'm so late visiting. Still taking care of two homes, four cats, four sandboxes, and four food bowls, as well as four demanding cats, two of which don't like sharing me.

Even before I read anything, I asked myself, is that pineapple? It looks good. If I'm not sure I'll like something like the pickled onions, I ask for it on the side. That way I get what I paid for, and if I don't like it, don't bother eating it.

I've had and made plant based burgers. Mostly, I've used lentils and tofu. However, there is nothing like real meat and if you want veggies, don't try to disguise them. I'm with Kathy. I've grilled portobello mushrooms and they came out great. I've stuffed them, too.

Thanks for sharing your plant based burger and your iced tea with us for T this week, dear CJ.

    1. I don't understand why people who don't like meat make fake meat products.

  13. No, I've never had 'fake meat' as I call it. I don't like the idea. And it's processed of course. I don't like to eat processed food if i can help it. So, you're welcome to it.
But of course it was fun to go out with your co-workers, and that's what it's all about.
    Belated happy T-Day,

    1. It was worth a try, but it won't be my first choice on a menu. It was nice to have lunch with the teaching assistants.

  14. As I don't eat beef I always look for alternatives (my favourite is a pork and apple burger from a local supermarket) some vegetarian ones are dire but I do like Beyond Burger. I must say though, garlic butter on a portabello mushroom takes a lot of beating! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
