The female cardinal perched for a while in the honeysuckle vine. I think she was checking for a potential nesting spot.
Heavy rains caused water in the swale and in the basement to run quickly.
After the heavy rains, came more light snow.
Heavy winds during the middle of the night caused a tree to come down in the New Girl's yard. We thought it was a weird thunderstorm. And then wondered why an electric company bucket truck was parked at the end of our driveway. We didn't lose electricity, but the tree must have taken wires down from the pole in the middle of the picture to the corner of the New Girl's house. The crew took 4 or 5 hours to repair the lines.
Poor Dido shivers in the cold of the latest snow.
Clearing skies and hopefully the end of the never ending Winter.
About the only good thing about snow at this time of the year with the high angle of the sun, the snow is gone by the afternoon.
How does your garden grow?
Sorry you are still having such complicated weather and other frights! It's not too bad here, but we have been told to expect a couple of cold and stormy days again. Valerie
ReplyDeleteBrrr. Hopefully not too cold or stormy
DeleteGood pics of the last (hopefully!) dying breath of winter. I seldom see female cardinals around here but have been few beautiful males.
ReplyDeleteWe have had rain for the past couple of days or so here, but thankfully not as much snow. :)
Last year, I had 2 pair of cardinals at the feeder. The male would visit first. Then stay nearby while the female ate. Sometimes the pair would sit on the trellis and he would feed her a sunflower seed. I think part of the courting ritual
DeleteLucky you to lose your snow. We were lucky and didn't get any accumulation (seeing we still have a lot on the ground), but I would rather have a dusting and lose it than none and still a white ground. Happy Sunday CJ. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteHopefully, with today's sunshine and mild temps. you'll lose a lot of your snow pack
DeleteHopefully this is winter's last hurrah for you. ;)
ReplyDeleteFrom your fingers to God's eyes
DeleteLosing trees is hard :( Wind and rain are taking a toll here, too, but snow is nowhere in sight for us. We're getting highs in the 60s, and I took all my "house" plants back out to the patio a few days ago.
ReplyDeleteI don't know where our resident cardinal pair nests -close around somewhere, but not where I can track them to. They are such gorgeous birds, a bright spot in every season :)
New Girl's dad made short work of the fallen tree. Someone will have wood for a stove or fireplace. The older cardinal pair had their nest in the arbor vitae on the border of our property. I'm not sure where the younger pair nested. It will be another month or two before plants can go outside. We can get a hard frost until May 15. My elderly neighbor wouldn't plant her tomatoes until Memorial Day weekend.
DeleteHow many feeders do you have? Looks like the birds love your home, even in the snow and sludge. So sorry the New Girl experienced this, but sounds like she has family (her dad) who was able to help clear the tree away. Most people would have to hire someone. I know I would. Namely my friend Scott (grin).
ReplyDeleteThere are two feeders, one in the front yard and one in the back/side yard. Both were placed so Ink could watch the birds from his favorite windows
DeleteSo lovely to see the cardinals and all the snow, although I know you prefer it when it's all gone ...lol 😉. I'm thinking it's time for spring where you are now too! I hope that you had a lovely weekend! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteIt was a very good weekend. More on Tuesday =^,.^=
DeleteI enjoyed seeing your photographs, especially the female cardinal.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I love when the cardinals come to visit
DeleteGreat photos CJ! Dido is so cute! The last photo looks like a post card! So nice and sunny! We are suppose to be getting rain and I think one more snow fall. Next week, I might get my snow tires off! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to have a warm up this weekend. I hope we are done with snow and rain.
